The Consortium Formed by Eneva and PetroReconcavo Continues Seeking Negotiations with Petrobras, Despite Prates’ Position. ABPIP Predicts a Great Result in Jobs if the Sale of the Bahia Terra Polo is Consolidated.
The issues surrounding the sale of the Bahia Terra Polo from Petrobras to a consortium formed by Eneva and PetroReconcavo are becoming even more ambiguous. After Prates confirmed that he does not know if the privatization of the asset will take place, in fact, the Brazilian Association of Independent Oil and Gas Producers (ABPIP) warned of the possible creation of 20,000 jobs with the transaction, reinforcing its importance.
ABPIP Predicts Over 20,000 Job Openings in the Brazilian Oil and Gas Sector with the Sale of Petrobras’ Bahia Terra Polo to Eneva and PetroReconcavo
The Brazilian oil and natural gas market is witnessing several impasses this week regarding Petrobras’s management concerning the continuation of its asset privatization project.
Recently, Petrobras President Jean Paul Prates emphasized that there was no certainty about the sale of the Bahia Terra Polo to Eneva and PetroReconcavo.

Together with the Lula government, the executive has been positioning himself against the concession processes of Petrobras’s ventures. However, a new discussion has entered the fray: the creation of job opportunities in the segment with the sale of the area.
According to ABPIP’s projections, over 20,000 jobs in the oil and gas sector could be created, either indirectly or directly, with the concession of the well to the consortium.
The association’s executive secretary, Anabal Santos Jr., said: “We must consider the positive effects that the Bahia Terra Polo will bring if operated by an independent company. There will be at least 20,000 jobs [direct and indirect]. Furthermore, the production of the asset will be tripled.”
Additionally, the sale of the Bahia Terra Polo may also attract new investments to Bahia, as the region is considered strategic for the oil and gas sector in Brazil.
The expectation is that the sale will be a significant boost for the local economy, generating new business and opportunities for companies in various sectors. However, the sale process remains a question for Petrobras, under Prates’s new command.
ABPIP Estimates Significant Losses for Brazil if the State-Owned Company Does Not Proceed with the Sale of the Bahia Terra Polo in the Coming Months
The ABPIP secretary acknowledged that workers in Bahia are dissatisfied with the possible sale of the Bahia Terra Polo. However, he believes there could be a realignment of the workforce to make space for the thousands of new job openings in the region.
Moreover, ABPIP believes that there could be serious consequences if Prates does not finalize the agreement.
“The first effect would be Brazil entering the list of countries where a company of Petrobras’s magnitude does not honor what it signs. Brazil has a long-standing tradition of honoring what is written,” he said.
Another factor that could contribute to the sale of the polo to the consortium formed by Enauta and PetroReconcavo is the increase in oil productivity in the region. This is because the association recalled that the assets sold by Petrobras often double in production.
Now, it remains for Petrobras President Prates to communicate the company’s steps regarding the sale of the Bahia Terra Polo following the ABPIP secretary’s remarks.
