Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, and Rio de Janeiro have, respectively, the highest gasoline prices in Brazil. According to the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), the average gasoline price in these states is close to R$ 8
After the fuel price adjustment by Petrobras throughout Brazil this March, the price of gasoline is already nearing R$ 8 in some states. According to the ANP, in Piauí, a liter of gasoline costs R$ 7.992. Next is Rio Grande do Norte and Rio de Janeiro, with the price of gasoline at R$ 7.921 and R$ 7.731, respectively.
Last week, the average price of common gasoline in Brazil increased by 8.6%. This week, the ANP recorded the price of gasoline at R$ 7.26, compared to R$ 6.68, the price recorded the previous week.
According to Gilberto Braga, an economist at IBMEC, factors such as ICMS and freight costs influence the price of the gasoline that reaches gas stations, as well as explaining the differences between states.

The economist explains that the price of gasoline in Rio de Janeiro is largely due to ICMS, as Rio de Janeiro is the state with the highest oil production in Brazil and has more than one refinery, so the distance compared to other states is shorter, from production to refining to consumption. However, gasoline is still very expensive.
According to CNN, the cheapest gasoline price in Brazil was found in the states of Amapá, São Paulo, and Rio Grande do Sul, in that order. According to the ANP, in these states, the average price of gasoline was below R$ 7.
