The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) yesterday approved measures that improve the quality of gasoline produced and sold in Brazil

The board of the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) approved yesterday, January 16, a resolution that aims to improve the quality of Brazilian automotive gasoline, produced and sold, benefiting all those who use this fuel.

Such resolution establishes specifications and obligations in the qualitative part of the fuel, to be met by economic agents. The improvement mainly focuses on three points. The first has to do with the specific mass values of gasoline, which in practice means more energy and less consumption.

The second point goes against the distillation parameters, specifically the temperature at the 50% evaporated point, that is, directly related to engine performance, drivability and heating. The third point, already present in the specifications of other countries, is the setting of limits for octane rating.

Such resolutions require their implementation due to the technology of current engines and which require a gasoluna with greater performance, to meet the vehicle's specifications. The ANP established a transition period, and during this time, the values previously established in the agency's 2013 resolution remain.

The ANP focuses on studies and conducts research on quality standards, considering international standards and holds debates with various agents in the fuel market. The new resolution also meets vehicle requirements and emission levels, which are becoming increasingly stringent.
