With the New Contran Rules, the National Traffic Council is Now Keeping an Eye, and Ear, on Loud Car Sound. Starting in November, drivers who abuse the volume may be fined up to R$ 195.23, in addition to accumulating five points on their National Driver’s License (CNH). Yes, the noise now impacts not only the eardrums but also the wallet!
This measure is part of the new resolutions, 624 and 625, approved by Contran. While Resolution 624 regulates car sound, 625 sets weight limits for public transport vehicles, such as buses and vans. Both norms aim not only to improve traffic safety but also to provide more peace and tranquility for those circulating on the streets.
Fine for Loud Sound in Cars: How Will the New Contran Rules Work?
According to Resolution 624, drivers with audible car sound outside, in a manner that disturbs public order, will receive a fine for loud sound in the car. The infraction is classified as serious, with a fine of R$ 195.23 and five points on the CNH.
The traffic agent must specify in the infraction report how the violation was identified, ensuring that the penalty is applied only when there is real disturbance. This reinforcement is based on article 228 of the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB), which already provided for penalties for the excessive use of sound equipment.

Are There Exceptions for Using Loud Sound?
Yes! The new Contran rules provide for certain situations where loud sound will not be penalized. Sounds from mandatory vehicle devices, such as horns, alarms, and reverse lights, are exempted. Similarly, authorized sound vehicles for advertising and events, as long as they are properly regulated by the traffic authority, will be exempt from fines for loud sound in cars.
Weight Limits for Public Transport: How Will the Inspection Work?
In addition to the restrictions on car sound, Contran also reinforced the norms for public transport vehicles with Resolution 625. According to the new rule, buses and other passenger transport vehicles must comply with the Gross Vehicle Weight (PBT) and axle load limits established in Resolution 210 of 2006.
This requirement meets a decision from the 1st Region Federal Regional Court (TRF-1), which mandated strict enforcement of these limits. Thus, the safety of passengers and the preservation of public roads are prioritized.
The Impact of the New Contran Rules on Daily Life
The impact of the new Contran rules is expected to be significant. It is hoped that Resolution 624 will lead to a reduction in violations related to loud car sound, promoting a calmer urban environment. Meanwhile, Resolution 625, by limiting the weight of public transport vehicles, should protect the durability of roads and increase safety for all traffic users.
The goal of Contran is to create a safer and more harmonious traffic environment for drivers and pedestrians. Now, the success of these measures will depend on adherence from both authorities and drivers.
