Population Celebrates Restructuring Of RN-079, Which Connects Rio Grande Do Norte To Paraíba And Brings Development To Thousands Of Residents
After 18 years without receiving significant improvements, RN-079 was finally restored and delivered in March 2025, directly benefiting about 23,000 residents of the municipalities of Alexandria, Marcelino Vieira, and surrounding areas.
The road, which links Rio Grande do Norte to Paraíba up to BR-405, underwent a complete restoration of its 38 kilometers in length.
The investment in the works was R$ 16.6 million, according to the State Government, and is part of Lot I of the State Road Recovery Program, the largest road infrastructure plan in the history of Rio Grande do Norte.

Governor Fátima Bezerra officially delivered the works during an event held in Alexandria, where she highlighted the positive impacts of the initiative.
“We Are Not Just Recovering The Asphalt. We Are Restoring Dignity To The People Of The Western Region,” declared Fátima.
According to her, only in the Western region, 133 km of highways have been restored since 2019, with investments exceeding R$ 151 million.
The governor also emphasized the social and economic importance of the state highways.
“It Is Through The Roads That Students, Agricultural Products, Commerce, And The Entire Economy Of The State Circulate. The Reconstruction Of The Highways Represents Development,” she added.

The State Road Recovery Program Of RN Is The Largest Ever Carried Out In The State.
According To Data From The RN Department Of Highways (DER), The Goal Is To Restore 2,059 Kilometers Of Highways By 2026.
By March 2025, 1,400 km had already been recovered, and another 600 km are under construction.
RN-079 Had Been In Poor Condition For Years, With Potholes And Critical Sections That Endangered The Safety Of Drivers And Residents.
Established In 1978 And Paved In 1979, The Road Had Last Been Restored Only In 2007, Being A Constant Target Of Complaints From The Population And Drivers.
The New Works Mark The First Complete Restoration Of The Road Since Its Creation.

According To DER-RN, The Services Performed On RN-079 Included The Removal Of The Old Pavement, Reconstruction Of The Most Critical Sections, As Well As The Application Of New Asphalt Throughout The Road’s Length.
The New Pavement Is Of The CBUQ Type (Hot-Mixed Bituminous Concrete), Recognized For Its Durability And Quality.
In Addition, The Road Received Horizontal And Vertical Signage, Complying With The Security Standards Required By National Legislation.
