ANTT and Ecovias do Cerrado Begin, in December, to Monitor Overweight on BRs in Two States, with Weighing Scales in Motion.
Starting December 2, ANTT (National Agency for Land Transport) and Ecovias do Cerrado will initiate an inspection operation on BRs 364 and 365. The goal is to monitor and control overweight commercial vehicles, using scales in motion, also known as HS-WIM. These scales will be installed at kilometer 640 of BR-365 in Uberlândia (MG) and kilometer 12 of BR-364 in São Simão (GO).
How Does the Inspection Work on BRs?
ANTT and Ecovias do Cerrado will be responsible for the inspection and operation of the scales, which will operate continuously.
The scales will detect, in real-time, if a vehicle is over the allowed weight. When this occurs, ANTT will notify the responsible driver and impose a fine according to current legislation.

The inspection will be conducted on a permanent basis, with ANTT operating the inspection and Ecovias collecting and analyzing the data.
The scales in motion installed by ANTT and Ecovias do Cerrado on BRs 364 and 365 operate via sensors on the roadway pavement.
These sensors identify the weight of the vehicle and cargo, in addition to separating by axles.
Cameras positioned on the gantries of these scales record the license plate and category of the vehicle being inspected.
This inspection carried out by ANTT, in collaboration with Ecovias, will be conducted 24 hours a day, without the need to stop traffic.
ANTT aims to weigh 100% of the vehicles traveling on BRs 364 and 365, with the help of the scales and state-of-the-art technology.
The system is fast and efficient, allowing continuous monitoring of vehicle weight without hindering traffic flow.
Advantages of Scale Inspections on the BRs
The inspection conducted by ANTT and Ecovias on BRs 364 and 365 brings several benefits to the transportation system.
Firstly, the weighing scale system in motion does not cause traffic interruptions, which prevents delays in trips and in the transportation of goods.
Additionally, it promotes greater fairness among drivers and companies, helping to combat irregular transportation practices, such as overweight, which harms road infrastructure and increases operating costs.
Since the installation of scales on BRs 364 and 365, ANTT and Ecovias have observed positive results.
In tests conducted at kilometer 640 of BR-365, more than 102,000 vehicles were weighed, with approximately 13,500 of these vehicles being overweight.
This represents 13% of the total vehicles inspected.
How is Overweight Monitored on BRs by ANTT?
If a vehicle is caught overweight by the scales on BRs 364 and 365, the transport responsible will be notified by ANTT.
The notification will be sent within 30 days, and the driver will have 30 days to present their defense.
If the defense is rejected, a fine will be imposed, calculated based on the excess weight.
ANTT, in collaboration with Ecovias, will be responsible for the entire inspection process, from weighing to issuing the fine.
Challenges for Drivers on BRs 364 and 365
The inspection on BRs 364 and 365 brings the need for greater responsibility on the part of drivers.
It will not be possible to offload the excess cargo on-site, as there is no suitable area for that.
Therefore, it is essential that drivers adhere to the weight limits set by ANTT and the traffic rules on BRs 364 and 365, thus avoiding penalties and issues with the inspection.
