The Scenario Is Still One of Generalized Fuel Price Increases Across Brazil. It’s Worth Highlighting the Surge in Ethanol Prices, Where Increases Outpace Gasoline Price Hikes
According to the Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL) for the first half of April, the average prices of gasoline and ethanol per liter at Brazilian gas stations rose by more than 2% compared to the end of March. Gasoline was sold at R$ 7.477, a 2.10% increase from the previous month. Ethanol, which averaged R$ 5.687 in March, experienced a greater change than gasoline (2.90%) and is now priced at R$ 5.852.
None of the regions in the country reported a decline in the average gasoline price and, even with the smallest increase (1.72%), the Northeast once again sold the most expensive gasoline in Brazil, at R$ 7.589. Likewise, in March, the South continues to have the cheapest gasoline, sold at R$ 7.104, a 2.51% increase from the previous month.
Just like gasoline, the price of ethanol did not decline in any state. The region with the highest average price during the period was the North (R$ 6.147). In contrast, gas stations in the North reported the smallest increase among the five regions (1.49%). Gas stations in the Midwest recorded the lowest average price for ethanol at R$ 5.451, a 3.41% increase compared to March.

“The scenario is still one of generalized fuel price increases across the country. It’s worth noting an important change in price behavior, as we identify that the price of ethanol per liter has surged and, with the exception of the North Region, the increases outpace those of gasoline. Although it still ranks as the highest average price for gasoline, according to the latest Ticket Log survey, there has been a respite from the consecutive increases identified at gas stations in the Northeast in recent surveys,” highlights Douglas Pina, General Director of Mainstream in Edenred Brazil’s Fleet and Mobility division.
In the analysis by state, Piauí stood out with the highest average price and also the largest increase in gasoline price (4.07%), which rose from R$ 7.832 to R$ 8.151. After consecutive increases, the gasoline price in Bahia dropped by 2.65%, with the price decreasing from R$ 7.560 to R$ 7.360. The lowest average price for this fuel was recorded at gas stations in Amapá, at R$ 6.918.
Ethanol also continued to rise, and no state reported a reduction in fuel prices. The largest increase in price was recorded in Sergipe, with ethanol sold at R$ 6.173, an increase of 6.87%. Pará sold ethanol at the highest average price, at R$ 6.677, while the lowest average was registered at gas stations in São Paulo, at R$ 4.894.
“In addition to ethanol being considered the most favorable option for refueling in São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, and Piauí, in April the fuel also became more attractive for drivers in Paraná, according to the IPTL,” concludes Pina.
The IPTL is a fuel price index calculated based on refueling conducted at 21,000 accredited Ticket Log gas stations, which is highly reliable due to the number of vehicles managed by the brand: a total of 1 million, with an average of eight transactions per second. Ticket Log, a fleet management and mobility solutions brand from Edenred Brazil, has over 30 years of experience and adapts to clients’ needs, offering modern and innovative solutions to simplify daily processes.
