The Works of the Bioceanic Bridge, a Key Initiative to Strengthen Trade Between Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Chile, Reached an Important Milestone with 45% of Its Construction Completed. This Intercontinental Project Promises to Significantly Boost Trade and Logistics in South America.

The construction of the Bioceanic Bridge, which connects Brazil to Paraguay over the Paraguay River, is progressing rapidly. This bridge, part of a larger route connecting four South American countries, is a cable-stayed structure 1,294 meters long, being one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the region.

The bridge has a cable-stayed section of 630 meters with a free span of 350 meters in the center, facilitating navigation on the Paraguay River. Its construction incorporates modern technologies and innovative design, aiming not only for logistical efficiency but also for aesthetics and environmental integration.

So far, 45% of the work has been completed, with an expected delivery in the first quarter of 2025. The progress includes the completion of key pillars and the installation of prestressed beams, crucial for the bridge’s structure.

Economic and Logistical Impact of the Bioceanic Route

The bioceanic route is strategic for the economic development of Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Chile. For Brazil, it will facilitate exports from the Midwest, while Paraguay, lacking direct ocean access, will greatly benefit from this logistic corridor. Argentina and Chile will also see significant improvements in trade and port activity.

The project, with an estimated cost of 85 million dollars, is funded by the Itaipu Binational on the Paraguayan side, reflecting the commitment to advancing regional infrastructure.

Complementary Developments and Future Plans

In addition to the bridge, complementary works are being carried out in both countries. In Paraguay, the paving of the last section of the bioceanic route is planned. In Brazil, works to access the bridge in Porto Murtinho are underway, including the construction of customs facilities and improvements to transport routes.

With the completion of the bridge and associated works, a significant increase is expected in trade efficiency and economic integration among South American countries. This project not only strengthens bilateral relations but also promotes sustainable economic growth in the region.
