With 34 Horsepower Engine and Styling Inspired by Its Bigger Sisters, the BMW G 310 GS Has Established Itself as the Gateway to the Adventurous Universe of the German Brand, but with Features That Divide Opinions.

The BMW G 310 GS is one of the most recognized motorcycles in the low-to-mid-displacement trail segment in Brazil. Endearingly nicknamed “Baby GS,” it brings the design and prestige of the famous GS line from BMW into a lighter, more accessible, and easy-to-ride package, ideal for those starting in the category or looking for a versatile bike for everyday use.

According to a comprehensive review of the 2018 model, conducted in partnership with owner Eduardo Nogueira, the bike excels in comfort and ease of handling. However, the analysis also reveals the strengths and weaknesses that a potential buyer needs to know before investing in BMW’s little adventurer.

What Is the BMW G 310 GS? The “Mini GS” That Conquered the Market

The BMW G 310 GS is the entry-level model in the brand’s adventurous lineup. Its design, with the high front fender and side fairings, is directly inspired by its larger and more famous sisters, such as the R 1250 GS, giving it an imposing presence on the road.

Its main purpose is to be a bike for daily urban use, but with the capability and comfort for tackling short trips and adventures on dirt roads.

The Heart of the Bike: The 313cc and 34 Horsepower Engine

The engine of the BMW G 310 GS is a single-cylinder 313cc, with liquid cooling and double overhead camshafts (DOHC). It delivers 34 horsepower and a torque of 2.85 kgf.m.

One of the significant advantages of the setup, according to the test, is the six-speed transmission, which helps the bike perform well on the road. Another highlight is the slipper clutch, which prevents the rear wheel from locking up during aggressive downshifts, enhancing safety.

Chassis and Equipment: What Does It Offer from the Factory?

The G 310 GS comes with a good equipment package for its category. The front suspension is of the inverted type, with 180 mm of travel, and the golden forks add a touch of sophistication. The rear suspension is mono-shock, also with 180 mm of travel.

The brakes are disc on both wheels, with calipers from the ByBre brand (a subsidiary of Brembo) and an ABS system that can be turned off, an important feature for off-road use. The bike also comes from the factory with a robust aluminum luggage rack.

Performance in Practice: Fuel Consumption and Top Speed

The BMW G 310 GS exhibits balanced performance for its purpose. Its top speed is between 145 and 150 km/h.

According to the evaluation, the fuel consumption averages 23 to 24 km/l. The main downside related to range is its fuel tank, considered small, with a capacity of only 11 liters, requiring more frequent stops for refueling on long trips.

The Price of a Used One and Points of Attention

The price of a 2018 BMW G 310 GS used, according to the FIPE Table, is R$ 22,650. A brand-new model, at the time of the test, was found on promotion for R$ 22,900.

Although it is a highly praised bike, the evaluation pointed out some recurring downsides. The main ones are vibration at high RPM, a characteristic of the single-cylinder engine, and the low handlebars, which can be uncomfortable for standing riding off-road.
