Charters Connect Macapá to the City of Oiapoque, on the Border with French Guiana, and Ensure the Logistics of the Pre-Operational Phase of Petrobras
Azul Linhas Aéreas has started charter flights to serve Petrobras, which is preparing to explore oil in the far north of the country.
The ATR 72-600, registration PR-YXE, took off from Macapá heading to Oiapoque, in Amapá. The city borders French Guiana and is close to the area where Petrobras intends to drill the first oil wells in the Amazon River Mouth Basin.
On August 22 and 25, Azul transported teams from the state company for the Pre-Operational Assessment (APO), the final step required before the grant of the environmental exploration license. The assessment ended on August 27, but Petrobras has not yet defined the start date for exploration.

Drilling Expected 175 Km from Oiapoque Requires Support Structure and Reinforces the Importance of Air Logistics in the Region
The first wells are expected to be drilled about 175 kilometers northeast of Oiapoque. This distance demonstrates how the operation demands robust logistical planning.
Furthermore, since Oiapoque does not have regular flights, the expectation is that Azul will maintain new charters. In this way, the company will ensure the movement of professionals and equipment in one of the most remote regions of Brazil.
This logistical support is essential. After all, without it, Petrobras would not be able to meet the schedule and start drilling offshore.
The Strategic Importance of Oiapoque for the Oil and Gas Sector
Oiapoque, once off the radar of major operations, is now establishing itself as a crucial support point.
Meanwhile, Azul’s presence strengthens the local infrastructure, which is still limited. This new phase places the city among the strategic locations for the expansion of the oil and gas sector in Brazil.
Therefore, the municipality now plays a central role in a project that could redefine energy exploration in the north of the country.
Following the Exit of Voepass, Azul Expands Presence in Team Transportation and Gains Space in the Oil and Gas Sector
With the end of Voepass’s operations, Azul has taken on a leading role in transporting professionals linked to the oil and gas industry.
Previously, these flights were concentrated on onshore activities within the Amazon Basin. Now, in Amapá, the exploration will be offshore, that is, in deep water.
On the other hand, this new challenge requires greater logistical efficiency and shows how Azul is willing to expand its operations in strategic regions.
Do you believe that the exploration of oil in the Amazon River Mouth can generate economic development without compromising the region’s environment?
