Central Bank Launches Commemorative Coin for 30 Years of the Real
The Central Bank presented, this Tuesday (24), the long-awaited commemorative coin for 30 years of the Real. In a celebration worthy of a gala, the new R$ 1 coin was developed in partnership with the Mint of Brazil and promises to be an icon not only for its design, but for the historical importance it carries.
The coin is already a coveted item among collectors and citizens, recalling the three decades of the Real Plan, which stabilized the economy and restored purchasing power to the pockets of Brazilians.
The Commemorative Coin for 30 Years of the Real: A Milestone at the Central Bank
With a design that blends tradition and modernity, the new commemorative coin for 30 years of the Real features, on its front side, the already known effigy of the Republic, a symbol of sovereignty and progress, accompanied by diagonal lines representing the strength of the Brazilian currency. The highlight is the golden edge, which is inscribed with the phrases “30 Years of the Real”, “1994-2024”, and “Brazil”, celebrating the legacy of three decades of stability.

The Central Bank announced that 137 million new R$ 1 coins will be launched throughout 2024, of which 45 million will be special editions dedicated to celebrating 30 years of the Real. Despite being rarer, these coins will be in circulation and can be found in any transaction, just like the common version.
Commemorative Coin and the Real Plan
For those who lived through the pre-Real years, the launch of this coin carries even greater weight. In 1994, the Central Bank implemented the Real Plan, a set of measures that changed the course of the country’s economy, facing hyperinflation that devalued money almost daily. This plan was a turning point, with no tricks, no drastic measures like account freezes, just transparency and a solid economic policy.
Over these three decades, the Real has established itself as a symbol of stability, and the commemorative coin for 30 years of the Real is a way to honor this historic achievement.
The Rush for Collectors
Although it is not necessary to purchase the coin directly from the Mint, like other limited editions, the expectation is that it will become a coveted item among collectors. There are already reports of previous commemorative coins being sold on specialized websites for prices ranging from R$ 49 to R$ 400, which may also happen with the new coins celebrating the 30 years of the Real.
The Central Bank had previously released commemorative editions, such as the R$ 1 coin dedicated to the 2016 Olympic Games, which also became a coveted item among collectors.
