Reddit User Developed An Electric Bike Capable Of Reaching 110 Km/H. The Model Uses A Washing Machine Motor And Does Not Generate Pollutant Gases That Impact The Environment.

When it comes to innovation, man has no limits, and proof of this is that a very creative engineer used parts from a washing machine to develop a modern electric bike, based on a common model he had for 20 years. The unprecedented creation was posted on Reddit, a social network that functions as a kind of forum, identifying himself as @Jimminecraftguy

Electric models are currently in vogue, as they are strongly linked to sustainability and environmental preservation. After social distancing measures, which came with the coronavirus pandemic, became common in the lives of thousands of people around the world, electric bikes gained even more visibility, as many citizens were forced to carry out some activities on their own, without using public transportation.

The electric bike developed by the user received the nickname “The Spin Cycle”, which translated into Portuguese is something like Centrífuga Bike. To develop it, the inventor used a washing machine motor of 1,100 W attached to the center of the bike frame.

After that, it was just a matter of passing the vehicle’s chain through the propeller’s gear, which, when activated, moves the chain, propelling the rear wheel of the bike. According to Jim, his electric bike can reach up to 110 km/h, enough to make the rider break a sweat. The vehicle could reach a maximum speed of 150 km/h, as it uses a motor that can handle up to 48V.

Similar Model Had Been Developed Before

The inventor states that he does not plan to make the electric bike with a washing machine motor more powerful than it already is. Now, his goal is to develop a more robust battery that provides a more interesting autonomy to the creation.

Developing an electric bike from parts of a washing machine is not exactly a novelty, and one of the most well-known cases is that of British Graeme Obree.

In 1996, inventor Obree became a world champion and even participated in the Summer Olympics, all while competing with his customized bike, developed with bearings from a washing machine that he disassembled himself. Obree broke several speed records in the 90s, and his model is still on display at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh today.

Electric Bike Market Gains Various New Models

The electric bike market keeps growing and is receiving various new models every day. One of them is the vehicle from the manufacturer Heybike, which gained attention for developing and producing affordable and compact bikes. The brand manages to offer very complete options at quite low prices in the market.

The company’s new vehicle is called Tyson, a foldable electric bike with a magnesium frame and a very powerful motor. The electric bike was officially presented at this year’s CES as the first of its class to feature a more powerful 750 W motor.

Heybike developed the vehicle aiming to offer cyclists the most in terms of aesthetics and convenience. The frame of its electric bike is made from a single piece of magnesium alloy, foldable, weighing only about 35 kg, much more durable and lightweight, with a capacity to carry 55 kg of load.
