State forecasts accelerated growth in the oil sector with billion-dollar reserves and strategy to enter the route of large offshore operators

Brazil may be facing a new phase in the oil and gas sector, as the Equatorial Margin gains strength as a strategic frontier and puts Amapá on the radar of major companies. During the Macaé Energy 2026, the state’s economic development director, Antônio Batista, stated that Amapá aims to double its oil production, in addition to attracting investments and increasing the presence of the North region on the national energy map.

This movement occurs at a decisive moment for the industry, as new exploratory areas begin to gain relevance in the country.

New energy cycle boosts Amapá and expands market expectations

Firstly, the scenario is considered highly promising, especially when compared to the recent evolution of Guyana, which has already established itself as one of the largest global discoveries of the last decade. According to data released by companies like ExxonMobil and international organizations, the country already produces about 1 million barrels per day, with projections that could reach 2 million barrels daily in the coming years.

Moreover, the geographical proximity between Guyana and Amapá reinforces an important thesis in the sector: the possibility of continuity of reserves along the northern Brazilian coast.

At the same time, the moment is still one of research. However, as highlighted during the Macaé Energy 2026, the expectation is that Petrobras will disclose relevant results in the first half of 2026, which could accelerate investment decisions and consolidate the region’s potential.

Oil production could double with billion-dollar reserves in the Equatorial Margin

In light of this scenario, Amapá is working with the expectation of doubling its oil production, should the reserves be confirmed in the coming years.

The estimated volume, in the range of billion barrels, indicates potential to sustain a prolonged expansion of activity. Consequently, the impact could be direct on the economy, with increased revenue, attraction of capital, and strengthening of the business environment.

Furthermore, the advancement of exploration is not limited to production. In practice, the entire production chain tends to be activated simultaneously, further expanding the reach of this growth.

Amapá wants to enter the route of companies in the Campos Basin

One of the most strategic points presented during the event was the attempt to bring the state closer to companies already operating in the Campos Basin, currently the main offshore hub in Brazil.

The strategy is clear and pragmatic. Companies already operating in the Southeast have technical experience, consolidated structure, and operational history in deep waters, which facilitates expansion into new exploratory frontiers.

In this sense, Amapá seeks to create a direct bridge with these companies, positioning itself as a natural destination for new investments. The message reinforced by Antônio Batista was straightforward in stating that the state wants to be on the route of business in the sector.

Production chain expands and creates opportunities throughout the region

At the same time, oil exploration activates a broad network of economic activities. Engineering, logistics, equipment supply, specialized services, and technology begin to gain prominence.

This multiplier effect has already been observed in other producing regions of Brazil, especially in the Southeast. Now, the expectation is that the same movement will occur in the North, generating jobs, regional development, and industrial strengthening.

Consequently, the advancement of the Equatorial Margin could transform Amapá into a new strategic hub within the national oil and gas industry.

Equatorial Margin could redefine the energy map of Brazil

Finally, the Equatorial Margin represents more than a new exploration area. It signifies a structural change in the country’s energy positioning.

If the projections are confirmed, Brazil could increase its production, diversify its operational regions, and strengthen its presence on the global stage.

Moreover, the North will definitively integrate the map of the oil industry, creating a new axis of growth in the country.

Companies that anticipate this movement are likely to gain a competitive advantage, especially in a sector where strategic positioning and timing are crucial.
