Historic Expansion for Ethanol Production Promises to Transform Renewable Energy Sector in Brazil with Biomass Generation
Uberaba is about to become the epicenter of energy innovation in Brazil! The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) announced a massive financing of R$ 480 million for the Minas Gerais Sugar and Alcohol Company (CMAA). This capital injection from BNDES will allow CMAA to expand its ethanol production and enhance energy generation from sugarcane biomass, according to Money Times.
Modernization and Growth: The Future of Sustainable Energy
BNDES’s robust financing will not be limited to expansion. The CMAA will use the funds for industrial modernization and acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment, positioning itself as a leader in green technology. Located in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, CMAA is one of the most promising sugar-energy groups in Brazil.
Support from the Lula Government: Towards Decarbonization
The approval of this BNDES financing aligns with the policies of the Lula government, which seeks to intensify the production of biofuels as a crucial part of the country’s decarbonization strategy. “This initiative reflects our commitment to the production of clean and renewable energy,” emphasized Aloizio Mercadante, president of BNDES.

Ethanol Production is Set to Explode!
Thanks to the financing, the Vale do Pontal unit of CMAA, located in Limeira do Oeste, will see an increase in anhydrous ethanol production of up to 85 million liters per year, reaching 205 million liters per harvest. It’s a true revolution in the sector!
In addition to ethanol, energy generation from biomass will also receive a massive boost. The capacity of the Vale do Pontal unit will be expanded to 68 MW, nearly doubling current production. Consequently, the total project, valued at R$ 289.4 million, promises more than 500 new jobs in the region.
