Incredible Antarctic Support Ship Will Operate In Fall And Summer In Antarctica With Capacity For 95 People On Board
The event held at the Arsenal of the Navy in Rio de Janeiro on the last 13th was historic for Brazil and brought the signing of an agreement for the construction of an Antarctic Support Ship for the country’s special operations in Antarctica, promising the generation of 500 to 600 direct jobs and more than 6,000 indirect jobs. The ship, granted to the Brazilian Antarctic Program (PROANTAR), will be powered by diesel and electricity and capable of supporting a crew of 95 people, including 26 researchers to explore the secrets of the continent.
The construction of this ship is expected to occur by 2025, and it should measure 93.3 meters in length and 18.5 meters in width, with the autonomy to operate for 70 days without issues. The construction of this ship will boost the shipbuilding industry and stimulate the economy in the sector. EMGEPRON, in partnership with the Brazilian Navy, will lead this project. Check out the details of this negotiation in the article.

The Empresa Gerencial de Projetos Navais (EMGEPRON), Polar 1 Construção Naval SPE Ltda., in partnership with the Brazilian Navy, will be responsible for leading this new project. However, the technical team will need great insight to build a reinforced hull capable of breaking through ice plates and navigating in large frozen fields, ensuring safety for the crew.
Investment Of More Than R$ 740 Million By EMGEPRON Will Stimulate The Development Of Scientific Discoveries In Antarctica, Besides Jobs
The EMGEPRON spearheaded a total of R$ 740 million for the construction of this new vessel powered by diesel and electricity, which promises significant scientific discoveries in the icy lands of Antarctica. This is because the ship will have new structures that enhance the safety of operations such as modern cranes, more sophisticated controls, and modern navigation systems.
