Unemployment Rate Was 4.3% Lower Than The Same Period Last Year

The first quarter of 2022 ended with good news in the economy: Brazil has the largest drop in unemployment compared to G20 countries. The data was released this week by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). According to the survey, Brazil recorded an unemployment rate of 10.5% in the first quarter, which represents a decrease of 4.3% compared to the same period in 2022.

And that’s not all! The unemployment rate reached its lowest value since 2016, indicating an economic recovery and hope. Experts claim that this is the result of the strengthening of the global economy and the gradual return to in-person activities, which has stimulated business. The Global Economy Was Affected By The Pandemic And The War Between Russia And Ukraine, Which May Have Helped Brazil Get Ahead

The pandemic and the need for social distancing brought insecurity to the economic landscape, and many establishments found no alternative but to close their doors. However, in 2022, the world begins to gradually return to its normal activities, and then the war between Ukraine and Russia started.

Still not recovered from the last blow, the sectors that employ were directly affected, especially in countries with direct trade relations with those involved in the war. Thus, Brazil was also affected, but not as abruptly in the employment sector. After all, although G20 countries have shown a reduction in the unemployment rate, Brazil managed to stand out, as shown in the results in the figure below.

The Scenario Is Promising, But Brazil Still Has The 4th Highest Unemployment Rate In The World

Although the recovery of jobs is encouraging, there is still much to improve. After all, we rank 4th in the list of countries with the highest unemployment rate. In absolute numbers, this translates to 11.3 million unemployed people. The lowest rate ever recorded happened in 2013, at 6.3%, and the highest in March 2021, reaching 14.9%.

When compared to the previous quarter, there was a 0.7% drop in the unemployment rate, which implies a total of 1.083 million people now employed. In comparison to the same quarter of the previous year, we see a total of 9.036 million people employed.
