In Just 18 Days, The GDM-4 Well Was Also Drilled In The Gato Do Mato Field, Reinforcing The Strength Of The Consortium Led By Shell
The Brava Star has just broken two historic milestones in the Brazilian pre-salt. The unit reached a depth of 7,700 meters in the Monai well and, in just 18 days, completed the drilling of the GDM-4 well in the Gato do Mato field, in the Santos Basin.
The Achievement Of Brava Star In The Brazilian Pre-Salt

The drilling of the Monai and GDM-4 wells positions the Brava Star as a protagonist in a new chapter in the development of exploration of the pre-salt. With a record depth of 7,700 meters and just 18 days to drill the second well, the results demonstrate the advancement of technology and operational efficiency in the region.
This performance directly contributes to the evolution of the Gato do Mato project, one of the most promising discoveries of the Brazilian pre-salt.

Gato Do Mato: A Strategic Field In The Santos Basin
The Gato do Mato field is located in the Santos Basin and is a gas-condensate discovery in the pre-salt. It encompasses two contiguous blocks: BM-S-54, under a concession regime signed in 2005, and the South block of Gato do Mato, under production sharing since 2017.
Initially, the plan is to reinject natural gas to maintain reservoir pressure. In the future, there is the possibility of exporting gas to onshore facilities.
Who Is Behind The Project In The Pre-Salt
The Gato do Mato Consortium is formed by major players in the energy sector. Shell is the operator with a 50% stake, followed by Ecopetrol (30%) and TotalEnergies (20%). Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A. (PPSA) acts as the manager of the production sharing contract.
The project plans to install a floating unit of the FPSO type (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading), with capacity to process up to 120,000 barrels of oil per day. It is estimated that the recoverable volume of oil will be approximately 370 million barrels.
Final Investment Decision Confirms The Advancement Of Production
Shell Brasil Petróleo Ltda., a subsidiary of Shell plc, made the Final Investment Decision (FID) to officially start the implementation of the Gato do Mato project. The announcement reinforces the company’s bet on the productive potential of the pre-salt and ensures another concrete step towards the country’s energy expansion, as explained by specialist Vitor Padua.
