Interview granted on March 18, 2026 reveals how Macaé strengthens the business environment, attracts investments, and boosts jobs in the energy and oil sector
The strengthening of the business environment in Macaé has become one of the main pillars of the municipality’s economic strategy. During the Macaé Energy 2026, held from March 17 to 19, the Secretary of Economic Development, Rodrigo Viana, detailed how the city has been positioning itself to attract investments and generate jobs in the energy and oil sector.
Furthermore, the event consolidated Macaé as one of Brazil’s main strategic hubs, much of this because the country is expected to receive half of the FPSO fleet under construction in the world, currently strengthening the offshore industry, bringing together companies, suppliers, and public sector representatives around real growth opportunities.
Government bets on dialogue with the industry to boost economic growth
According to Rodrigo Viana, the foundation of the municipality’s strategy lies in constant dialogue with the industry. According to the secretary, the government acts directly to create favorable conditions for business development.
-
The largest South American oil company, Petrobras, is preparing for a historic leap in production with new FPSO platforms and the expansion of refining — projects that could add up to 900,000 barrels per day and strengthen Brazil’s energy security.
-
Billions of barrels in the Equatorial Margin could double Amapá’s oil production in Brazil and attract companies from the Campos Basin.

Offshore And New Investment Opportunities Will Be At The Center Of Discussions At Macaé Energy 2026
“Thus, with the utmost humility, but also with great pride and satisfaction, I wanted to highlight the importance of this moment for Macaé,” he stated.
According to him, the municipal management works in an integrated manner with business institutions, seeking to align demands and solutions in a structured way.
“We start from a government vision that constantly dialogues with the industry, taking care of the business environment and acting collegially with business institutions,” he emphasized.
In this sense, the Macaé Energy 2026 emerges as a strategic tool to consolidate this governance model.
Macaé Energy 2026 emerges as a platform for industry demands
The secretary explained that the creation of the event was not random. On the contrary, it arose from the need to provide a structured space for companies to present their demands directly to the government.
“We understood the need to create Macaé Energy to open these large forums suitable for the industry to express itself,” he stated.
Moreover, the event serves as a direct channel between the productive sector and the government, allowing decisions to be made based on the real needs of the market.
In this way, a virtuous cycle is created, where the public power acts as a facilitator and the industry as an economic engine.
“It is a space where the industry exposes everything it needs, and where the public power can help in its development, ensuring that the results reach the end,” he added.
Strategy focuses on job creation and increased revenue
One of the central points of Macaé’s economic policy is directly linked to the generation of formal jobs. According to Rodrigo Viana, the business environment is the main responsible for energizing the local economy.
“It is in the business environment that the work card is signed, that revenue is generated, and that cash is created for the government to invest,” he explained.
Thus, the strategy goes beyond attracting companies. In practice, it seeks to expand the public investment capacity in essential areas.
Among the main sectors benefited are:
- Education
- Health
- Public safety
- Infrastructure
In other words, economic development serves as a foundation for improving the quality of life of the population.
Guideline of the municipal government prioritizes economic development
During the interview, Rodrigo Viana also highlighted that this vision comes directly from the leadership of the municipal Executive. According to him, the mayor’s guidance has been clear since the beginning of the administration.
“When he invited me to take over this department, he was direct: ‘Rodrigo, it’s economic development all the way’,” he revealed.
From that point on, the entire structure of the secretariat began to operate with a focus on creating a more competitive, attractive, and efficient environment for companies.
Therefore, the goal is not just to grow, but to grow sustainably and structurally.
Macaé consolidates as a strategic hub of the energy sector in Brazil
With initiatives like Macaé Energy 2026, the city reinforces its position as a logistical and operational hub of the oil, gas, and energy sector in Brazil.
Moreover, the municipality has been expanding its role beyond oil, keeping up with trends such as:
- Energy transition
- Integration with the natural gas market
- Industrial innovation
- Digitalization of processes
This movement has already been highlighted by industry representatives during the event, who see Macaé as an increasingly prepared environment to receive new projects.
In this way, the city stops being just the “capital of oil” and takes on a broader role within the Brazilian energy matrix.
Business environment becomes a competitive differential of Macaé
Finally, Rodrigo Viana reinforced that Macaé’s great differential lies in the ability to articulate between government and the private sector.
“This is a very clear guideline within the government’s vision: strengthen the business environment to boost the development of Macaé,” he concluded.
With this, the municipality signals to the market that it is prepared to grow in a structured way, attracting investments and expanding opportunities throughout the entire production chain.
