Partnership Between BSBIOS and Norsul Aims to Neutralize Carbon Emissions for Renewable Fuel Transportation
One of the largest plants in Brazil, BSBIOS, has established a partnership with Norsul and its Carbon Neutral Program to promote a new form of maritime transportation for biodiesel using cabotage. In this way, the fuel produced can be transported from Paraná to the Port of Suape in Pernambuco with zero greenhouse gas emissions, especially carbon dioxide.
The maritime transportation of biofuel is a groundbreaking achievement, made possible by Norsul, a major player in logistics, and provides a 100% emission-free way to transport. The company’s first journey took about 14 days aboard the ship Taruca, departing from the Port of Paranaguá and arriving at the Port of Suape. Learn more about this historic achievement by reading today’s article.

More Than 4 Million Liters of Biodiesel Were Transported to Supply the Northeast Region
The transportation carried out between the Ports of Paranaguá and Suape involved the movement of 4 million liters of biodiesel, aimed at supplying the Northeast region of Brazil. The fuel originated from the BSBIOS plant in Marialva, Paraná. Greenhouse gas emissions from this mode of transportation were neutralized by the Norsul Carbon Neutral program.

As diesel prices soar due to conflicts in the Middle East, a Brazilian city decides to test a little-known biofuel that promises to completely replace fossil fuel without adaptation and could change the future of energy in the country.
“We are very happy to be able to collaborate in expanding BSBIOS’s route sustainably, exploring all the potential of our New Business area, developed precisely to bring new solutions to our clients, enabling them to go further“
Gustavo Paschoa, Director of New Businesses at Norsul (2022)
To put this large logistical operation into practice on a new route, the professionals worked tirelessly for 90 days, with extensive integration of the teams from both companies. Thus, they managed to plan and carry out a significant cabotage operation, which they believed to be the best way to transport the fuel without causing significant environmental damage. Cabotage refers to navigation between two ports of the same country, without losing sight of the coast.
“Our actions are guided by monitoring and seeking solutions that can improve processes so that the environmental impacts caused by our operations are minimized. Choosing this mode with Norsul aligns with our strategic sustainability objectives”
Leandro Luiz Zat, Commercial Director of BSBIOS (2022)
Norsul Initiative Aims to Help Preserve Forests and Neutralize Greenhouse Gas Emissions
This initiative for a new transportation mode for fuel aims to neutralize greenhouse gas emissions while promoting forest preservation and the development of local communities, preserving carbon stocks. Norsul also has other initiatives, such as biogas production from landfills for future transport use, without CO₂ emissions.
However, the maritime transportation of biodiesel marks a new phase for Brazil’s plants, being an important step towards a sustainable supply method.
“We are very happy and pleased to develop a new market route collaboratively. For the first time, we have reached the Northeast region with our biodiesel, further expanding our operations and delivering quality products that contribute to decarbonization”
Leandro Luiz Zat, Commercial Director of BSBIOS (2022)
The initiative is very positive and brings a new scenario to the fuel market in Brazil, expanding the routes of Norsul and BSBIOS. Furthermore, this achievement encourages other companies in the sector to seek alternatives, as the concern for the environment is part of the environmental responsibility highly valued by consumers.
