BYD Sea Lion 07 – electric coupe SUV (7)

BYD Sea Lion 07 was launched in China to compete with the Tesla Model Y.

A BYD unveiled its latest all-electric coupe SUV, the Sea Lion 07, during the Guangzhou Auto Show. This vehicle is based on the 3.0 electronic platform and comes with advanced technology CTB (Cell to Body). Belonging to the line Ocean of the brand, the Sea Lion 07, which arrives after the Seagull, Dolphin and Seal, is positioned between the Yuan Plus and the Tan.

The similarity with the Seal model is evident in its design, which shares the same slim LED headlights and a lower line for daytime lighting. This look was inspired by the Ocean-X concept and was developed by the team led by Wolfgang Egger, a former Audi designer who has led the BYD team since 2016.

The Sea Lion 07 is a considerably large car, measuring 4.830 mm in length, 1.925 mm in width, 1.620 mm in height and with a wheelbase of 2.930 mm. With the 07 designation, BYD intends to position the Sea Lion as a more refined and expensive option, almost like a luxury line, to follow the trend in China of having sub-brands with different proposals and positioning.

BYD has not yet released the technical specifications of the Sea Lion 07's engine or batteries. However, it is confirmed that the vehicle will feature the technology Cell-to-Body (CTB), with batteries integrated into the floor or body, eliminating the need for large sets of batteries positioned in specific locations. In the case of the Sea Lion 07, the batteries are integrated into the floor, offering a 66% increase in volume and an additional 10 mm of vertical space.

The objective of the BYD Sea Lion 07 is to compete with the Tesla Model Y in China, with an estimated price of between 200 and 260 yuan (R$136.968 to R$178.059). However, there is the possibility of internal cannibalization, since the recent Song L model was launched for the equivalent of R$152 thousand, which could generate competition between the two models.

For now, BYD has not mentioned plans for launch in other markets or the start date of sales in China.
