Although it is still under evaluation in Brazil, the BYD Sealion 7: an SUV of the Seal with up to 530 hp displayed at the SP Auto Show already has a defined role in the global market.
Initially launched in China, the model began selling in Europe in 2024, becoming a key piece in the manufacturer’s international expansion plan.
BYD expects that the Sealion 7 will be one of the first vehicles produced at the brand’s future factory in Hungary, with operations set to begin in 2025.
In addition to strengthening its European presence, this decision aims to reduce import tariffs within the European Union, which enhances the competitiveness of Chinese electric cars in that market.
This movement demonstrates that the Sealion 7 is not just a regional project.
Imposing Size and Premium Cabin Attract Attention in Brazil
At BYD’s booth at the SP Auto Show, the Sealion 7 stood out for its above-average size compared to electric SUVs currently offered in the country. The model features:
4.83 meters in length;
1.92 meters in width;
2.93 meters in wheelbase;
570 liters of trunk space, along with a front compartment;
This size guarantees more interior space, especially for those traveling in the back seat.
The cabin reinforces the premium proposition.
Depending on the version, the SUV offers vegan leather or Nappa, a panoramic roof with an electric curtain, front seats with ventilation, heating, and electric adjustments, as well as multicolored ambient lighting.
To top it off, the multimedia center follows BYD’s rotating standard, with a 15.6-inch screen, integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 4G connectivity, voice command “Hi, BYD,” Dynaudio sound system with 12 speakers, and Head-up Display.
Advanced Safety and Complete Driver Assistance Package
The Sealion 7 also stands out for its robust set of driving assistants. Among the main features are:
Adaptive cruise control;
Autonomous emergency braking;
Sign recognition;
Front and rear collision alerts;
Active lane assist;
Fatigue monitor;
Dedicated systems for intersections and preventive braking;
Danger alert for door openings;
This package positions the model among the most complete electric SUVs currently available.
Blade Technology, Greater Range, and Ultrafast Charging
Like the Seal sedan, the Sealion 7 utilizes the Blade LFP battery with CTB (Cell-to-Body) technology, which integrates the pack with the body, increasing structural rigidity and thermal safety.
In Europe, the range can exceed 500 km in the WLTP cycle, depending on the configuration. Additionally, fast charging reaches up to 230 kW, recharging from 30% to 80% in about 25 minutes.
Furthermore, the model includes V2L technology, which turns the vehicle into a power source for external devices—a feature increasingly valued in the market.
Positioning in Brazil: Premium Segment and Little Competition
