With Price Reduction, BYD Shark Becomes Strong Competitor and May Impact Sales of Ford Ranger and Hilux in the Pickup Market. Check Out the New Prices of the Chinese Model!
The BYD Shark pickup, the first plug-in hybrid pickup in Brazil, had its price reduced this February. In total, there was a discount of R$ 40,000 on the BYD pickup, bringing it to a price of R$ 339,800. The listed price has been R$ 379,800 since its launch. With this price, the model can easily overtake the sales of the Ford Ranger and Hilux.
Understand the Reason for the R$ 40,000 Discount on the BYD Pickup
As a result, the BYD Shark pickup is now cheaper than the Toyota Hilux SRX Plus (R$ 346,290) and also costs less than the Ford Ranger Limited, which currently costs R$ 341,900 for its base configuration and R$ 361,900 for its more complete version, offering features such as adaptive cruise control, 20-inch wheels, lane assist, and a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, features that the Chinese pickup also has.
The R$ 40,000 discount on the BYD pickup may be an attempt by the Chinese company to boost sales of its model, which sold only 313 units from October to December 2024 and had an additional 100 units registered in January.

Jaecoo 7 with super hybrid SHS system exceeds 1,200 km of combined range with a 1.5 turbo engine, high-density battery, and intelligent energy management.
The audience for midsize pickups still values diesel engines, such as those in the Ford Ranger and Hilux, and the high price of the BYD Shark may have deterred those interested in switching to a hybrid setup.
Learn What Sets the BYD Shark Pickup Apart from the Others
Now with a R$ 40,000 discount on the BYD pickup, it is important to mention that the main highlight of the Shark when facing the Ford Ranger and Hilux, which have loyal customers who love diesel engines, is its hybrid setup. The model is equipped with a 1.5 turbo gasoline engine, which promises to deliver 183 hp and 26.5 kgfm of torque.
This engine works in conjunction with two other electric motors, one front-mounted with 231 hp and 31.6 kgfm, and another rear-mounted with 204 hp and 34.6 kgfm.
The combined power of the setup is 437 hp, while the maximum torque is 65 kgfm. To give you an idea, the Ford Ranger features a V6 3.0 engine that delivers 250 hp and 61.2 kgfm of torque.
The performance of the powertrain allows the BYD Shark pickup to go from 0 to 100 km in 5.8 seconds. During tests, it was observed that the energy efficiency of the model is directly linked to the charge level of the 29.6 kWh battery.
When fully charged, the vehicle focuses on using the electric motors. Once the battery is drained, the model operates as a traditional hybrid, engaging the combustion engine for energy generation. Under these conditions, the measured consumption was 9.9 km/l in the city and 7.7 km/l on the highway.
Equipment Offered in the BYD Shark Pickup
Among the standard equipment of the model, which arrives to compete with the Ford Ranger and Hilux, there are dual-zone digital air conditioning, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.8-inch multimedia center with a rotatable screen.
Additionally, the model is equipped with a driving mode selector, keyless entry or NFC card access, a start button, and front leather seats with electrical adjustments.
Although well-equipped, the pickup does not have autonomous parking or rear cross-traffic assist. However, its technology and safety package remains quite comprehensive, providing an adequate level of protection and comfort for the segment.
