CPG Heard From Expert Vinícius Hozara Who Explains Which Cars Have High Depreciation and Advises On What To Consider Before Buying A New Model
Acquiring a new car may seem like a good idea, but some models experience high depreciation right after leaving the dealership. CPG spoke with expert Vinícius Hozara, who highlighted several car models with high depreciation that do not offer good value for money upon purchase. By opting for a lightly used vehicle, consumers can save significantly and avoid a considerable loss in value at resale.
Cars With High Depreciation and Poor Cost-Benefit
Chinese Hybrid SUV With Significant Depreciation
The Haval H6 GT, from GWM, a Chinese hybrid SUV, catches attention for its modern design and advanced technology. However, Hozara explains that this is one of the cars with high depreciation, as the Brazilian market still approaches Chinese hybrid vehicles with caution. With a list price of R$ 321,000, the model suffers significant depreciation and is found at values below the Fipe table.

50 viaducts, 4 tunnels, 28 bridges, and 40 kilometers of bike paths: BR-262 in Espírito Santo will receive 8.6 billion reais for the largest engineering project in the state’s history, inspired by the Immigrant Highway in São Paulo.

Brazil produces too much clean energy and doesn’t know what to do with it: over 20% of solar and wind capacity was wasted in 2025 while investors flee and 509 renewable generation projects were abandoned in the last year.

Piauí will produce a new fuel that replaces diesel without needing to change anything in the truck’s engine and reduces pollutant gas emissions by half: truck drivers from all over the Northeast are already celebrating the news that will arrive later this decade.

A new Brazilian shopping center worth R$ 400 million will be built in an area equivalent to more than 4 football fields, featuring 90 stores, 5 cinemas, a supermarket, a college, and parking for 1,700 cars, potentially generating 3,000 jobs.
Volkswagen Virtus Highline and Exclusive: Premium Sedan With Limited Resale Value
According to Hozara, the Virtus Highline and Exclusive models from Volkswagen face high depreciation and complicate resale, especially due to the high price of sedans in this category. The Virtus is often compared to the Corolla, a preferred model among used car consumers, which further worsens the resale difficulty.
Chevrolet Equinox: An Expensive SUV With Low Demand
The Chevrolet Equinox, another example cited by the expert, stands out for its comfort and safety. However, it is one of the cars with high depreciation, making its resale difficult both as a new car and as a used one. “Buying a lightly used Equinox might be a more viable option, as you can find it below the Fipe table,” says Hozara.
Nissan Sentra: High Price and Resale Difficulty
The new Nissan Sentra, aimed at competing with the Corolla, presents similar issues. “It came to market with a high price and is not attractive in terms of cost-benefit,” notes Hozara. This makes it more interesting to purchase a model that is one or two years old, retaining the factory warranty and a more accessible price.
Ford Bronco: SUV With Premium Features and Rapid Depreciation
The Ford Bronco is a modern vehicle with various off-road capabilities; however, its high price for a Ford creates difficulties in resale. Hozara explains that this model, when used, is already available in the market at reduced prices compared to that of a new unit.
Volkswagen Taos: High Price and Low Demand
Another example is the Volkswagen Taos, an SUV that has reliable mechanics and good interior space, but falls short in terms of finish and cost-benefit. According to Hozara, the Taos is one of the cars with high depreciation, making a lightly used model a more attractive choice for those seeking affordability without sacrificing quality.
Honda ZR-V: Reliable SUV But Lacks Appeal for Its High Price
The Honda ZR-V, according to Hozara, is a well-built and reliable SUV, but it has a high price that does not reflect its market value. Within a few months, the vehicle loses a considerable amount of value, and the market offers much more financially advantageous used options.
Renault Kwid Electric: Urban Compact That Loses Value Quickly
Although the Renault Kwid Electric is an interesting car for urban use, Hozara warns that it depreciates quickly, especially when purchased new. “If the consumer is interested in the electric Kwid, it’s worth looking for a lightly used one,” suggests the expert.
Toyota Yaris Sedan: Questionable Cost-Benefit for a New Model
The Toyota Yaris Sedan, according to Hozara, is yet another option with low attractiveness as a new model. “This car has a high market value, but in the used market, it can be found at more accessible prices and still with low mileage,” he explains.
Citroën C3: Compact With High Depreciation
Finally, the Citroën C3 also appears on the list of cars with high depreciation. Despite being an economical model and a good option for those seeking a compact car, it loses a significant amount of value when purchased new. Hozara suggests opting for a lightly used one to minimize value loss and ensure a better cost-benefit.
Used Car Can Be More Interesting Option
The analysis from expert Vinícius Hozara demonstrates that some models suffer from significant depreciation, making them less advantageous when purchased new. For those seeking good value and a lower loss in value, the ideal approach is to consider buying a lightly used vehicle, especially in cases where depreciation is a decisive factor.
