Thousands of job openings in Ceará! US$ 10 billion will be invested in Pecém for the production, storage, distribution and export of green hydrogen

The state of Ceará will receive an investment of US$ 5,4 billion from the Australian multinational Enegix Energy. The Base One green hydrogen project will be built, together with the government of the state of Ceará, which will be the largest green hydrogen plant in the world and will generate thousands of jobs in the region. In addition, one of the global leaders in the iron ore industry, the Australian mining company Fortescue Metals Group, should also sign a memorandum of understanding for the construction of a green hydrogen plant in the state. The HUB in Ceará has the potential to be one of the biggest H2V (green hydrogen) players in the world, competing with other countries, which have also started implementation, such as Japan, the United States, Portugal and the Netherlands.

This is the assessment of Monica Saraiva Panik, director of institutional relations at ABH2 (Brazilian Hydrogen Association), in relation to the H2V project that the state of Ceará is implementing – considered, by the government of Ceará, to be the first in Brazil.

The initiative, announced during a meeting held virtually last week, aims to make Ceará a global player in the production, storage, distribution and export of renewable energy.

Thousands of jobs will be generated in Ceará with the H2V plants

According to a company statement, Base One will create thousands of jobs during construction and employ hundreds of full-time operational staff to manage its facilities, with far-reaching positive social benefits for the local community as well as the state.

The new plant will have the potential to reduce annual CO2 emissions by 10 million tons per year and will become the world's largest carbon emission reduction project.

“The HUB will contribute to the social, economic, technological and environmental development of the state”, highlighted Roseane, adding that meetings with global and local companies have already started.

Port of Pecém is considered a strategic point

The Pecém Complex is considered a strategic point, for example, for the production and export of green hydrogen, since there are already a large number of industries that can consume it.

Duna Gondim Uribe, commercial executive director at CIPP (Industrial and Port Complex of Pecém), explained that the port has as competitive advantages its infrastructure and tax benefits.

The executive emphasized that the structure will act as a mobilizer for the entire value chain, receiving components for offshore wind energy plants, in addition to providing the installation of solar panels, electrolysis plants, H2 storage, desalination plant and transmission lines. power.

The intention, according to her, is that H2V can be consumed not only by industries, but also used in various logistics services and urban mobility.

Export of green hydrogen in the Northeast

With regard to exports, the government of Ceará stated that the Port of Rotterdam has a stake in the capital of Pecém, in addition to being a partner in this project.

The Commercial Executive Director at CIPP also commented that the idea is that the Port of Pecém becomes the exit door for the green hydrogen produced in Brazil and that of Rotterdam is the entrance door to Europe.
