The “Shanhe” works at an impressive pace: advancing 15 meters per day, excavating and assembling the tunnel structure at the same time. While the cutting head grinds everything it encounters along the way, sensors and operators monitor every detail of the process.
With each completed section, workers install the structural rings, reinforcing the passage. This method allows excavation to continue without interruptions and for the tunnel to take shape quickly.

The team needs to monitor temperature, pressure, mud levels, cutter wear, and a plethora of other details to ensure that nothing goes out of control.
