Stealth Aircraft, Air Defense Systems, and Advanced Drones Show How China Is Trying to Challenge US Hegemony in the Global Scenario.

At the Zai Airshow 2024, China showcased an impressive lineup of military technologies, reinforcing its position as an emerging power on the global stage. Among stealth fighters, air defense systems, and advanced drones, the event made it clear that China is preparing to challenge US hegemony.

This strategic move reflects the country’s ambitions to compete directly with the United States in innovation and military power projection.

Held in the city of Zai, in southern China, the event was more than just an aviation fair. Under the theme “Integration and Technological Advancement,” China took the opportunity to showcase innovations that challenge the military capabilities of the United States. The message is clear: the country is making substantial investments to rival US hegemony.

The Highlight of the J-35A: China’s Fifth Generation Fighter

The J-35A, presented by Shenyang, was the main highlight. This fifth-generation stealth fighter is a direct response to the American F-35, bringing advancements in design and technology. Equipped with dual engines and radar-absorbing technology, the J-35A promises high-intensity maneuvers and impressive stealth, even though it is in the early stages of testing. Its interoperability in integrated strike networks marks a leap in the modernity of the Chinese Air Force.

J-15B: China’s Embarked Trump Card

The J-15B also drew attention as an embarked fighter designed to operate on China’s future aircraft carriers with catapults. With engines 100% Chinese, this advancement reduces dependence on Russia and strengthens the country’s naval air power projection capability. The inclusion of the J-15B in the Chinese fleet is a key piece in establishing China as a maritime power.

HQ-1: The Shield Against Ballistic Missiles

Among air defense systems, the HQ-1 was presented as a response to the US THAAD system. With an interception range of 500 km and the capability to engage cruise and ballistic missiles, the HQ-1 strengthens territorial defense and protects strategic assets in a scenario of increasing missile threats.

Advanced Drones: W-5000 and CH-7

The Zai Airshow also revealed innovative drones. The W-5000, the largest cargo drone ever produced in China, promises to support logistics operations in remote areas. Meanwhile, the CH-7, a high-altitude stealth drone, combines electronic warfare missions with combat zone monitoring, destabilizing enemy defense systems and integrating forces in long-range attacks.

This investment reflects the growing tensions in the Indo-Pacific and the drive to consolidate China’s position as a global military power. Equipment such as the J-35A and the CH-7 are essential for operating far from Chinese borders, demonstrating the country’s ambition to rival US hegemony.

The Zai Airshow 2024 was a clear demonstration of China’s intentions to reshape the global military landscape. From stealth fighters to air defense systems and advanced drones, the country reinforces its strategic and technological position.

China does not only want to protect its territory, but actively challenge US hegemony, shaping the future of military operations in an era of innovation and technological advancement.
