Half of The Investments Will Be in Rio Grande do Norte and Will Be Made by Chinese Who Already Operate Hydroelectric Plants in Minas and Wind Farms in Paraíba
The Northeast is indeed the center of attention when it comes to wind energy, after Siemens signed a contract to supply 27 turbines for a park in Bahia, the Chinese State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC), through its vice president, Anjian Lu, participated in a meeting with the governor of the State of Rio Grande do Norte, Fátima Bezerra, last Friday, July 26, and announced investments of R$ 2 billion in the state.
In total, there will be R$ 4 billion in investments from the company in the Northeast, where it already operates two wind farms in the state of Paraíba.
SPIC also operates in the Southeast, where it runs the São Simão hydroelectric plants in Minas Gerais, but this time they will invest in the Northeast.
With offices in Rio Grande do Norte and 15 employees, the Chinese company wants to invest in wind and solar energy, with the implementation of a development and technology improvement center and a factory for products and supplies for energy generation.

The Role of Each Part
The participation of the Government of the State of Rio Grande do Norte is to expedite the release of environmental permits and grant incentives for SPIC’s plans to begin investments this year to materialize.
The governor of Rio Grande do Norte left the meeting very optimistic and declared: “Investors are very welcome. Our state is rich in natural resources, but it needs investments to turn it into jobs, income, and wealth for our people.”
The governor’s speech aligns with the planning of the Chinese company, which stated through its vice president: “Rio Grande do Norte is the best place in the Northeast for us to invest. Our business is to explore wind and solar energy generation. We are also manufacturers of products and supplies for energy parks and we want to install a factory here.”
It was agreed in the meeting between the parties that a commitment term defining the responsibilities of the parties and strategies for investments to begin will be signed.
The term is being prepared by the State Secretariat for Economic Development (Sedec), whose secretary, Jaime Calado, stated that Rio Grande do Norte, with its 162 parks, is today the largest producer of wind energy in the country but has the potential to produce 25 GW.
