The Largest Solar Park in the Americas Is in Minas Gerais. The Janaúba Solar Complex Produces Clean Solar Energy for 1.2 Million Brazilians and Prevents 850,000 Tons of CO₂ Annually.
Did you know that the largest solar park in the Southern Hemisphere and the Americas is located in Brazil? It is called the Janaúba Solar Complex and is situated in northern Minas Gerais.
With an installed capacity of 1,617 MWp, this solar energy giant has the potential to supply energy to up to 1.2 million people with 100% clean energy.
The project is a milestone not only in size but also in environmental and social impact. The generation from the complex prevents the emission of about 850,000 tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere each year. In other words, it is a true example of how renewable energy can transform the future.

Largest Solar Park: A Solar Field the Size of a City
The Janaúba Solar Complex impresses with its physical size as well. It occupies over 3,800 hectares, which is roughly equivalent to around 5,200 football fields side by side.
In total, the park features 2.9 million solar panels.
Distributed across 27 photovoltaic plants, the complex demonstrates how solar energy can be scaled on a large scale.

These plants convert sunlight directly into electricity, in a clean, silent, and sustainable manner.
Solar Energy That Moves Lives
In addition to its energy importance, the Janaúba Complex has also generated social development.
During its construction, around 15,000 direct and indirect jobs were created.
Elera Renováveis, responsible for the project, strongly invested in training the local community.
One highlight was the promotion of women’s inclusion, with training classes focused on women.
In the third phase of the project, for example, the pre-assembly team was composed exclusively of female professionals.
An initiative that reinforces how the energy transition can also be a tool for equity.
The commitment of the largest solar park in the Americas goes beyond energy generation. Elera also develops social projects, such as the establishment of productive backyards with local families.
The aim is to encourage family farming, generating new sources of income and strengthening food security.
These actions demonstrate that investing in solar energy means not only building large plants but also generating value for the surrounding communities.
A Symbol of Brazil’s Energy Transition
With all of this, the Janaúba Solar Complex becomes a symbol of Brazil’s leadership in solar energy. At a time when the world is seeking cleaner and more sustainable solutions, Brazil shows that it is possible to unite innovation, scale, and social impact.
And all of this starts with the sun — an inexhaustible source of energy that now moves millions of lives.
As summed up by Elera Renováveis CEO André Flores: “The journey of the Janaúba Solar Complex is a milestone for the company, in addition to being an important contribution to local development and to increasing the share of renewables in Brazil’s electric matrix.”
