A new project to boost the Brazilian naval industry is underway in the Chamber. This is a proposal from Deputy Alexandre Lindenmeyer (PT/RS) for the creation of a Parliamentary Front for the Defense of the National Naval Industry. The idea had already been proposed by the National Union of the Shipbuilding and Offshore Industry (Sinaval), which supports the deputy’s decision to advance the suggestion for new projects and investments in the sector in the coming years.
Proposal for the Creation of a Parliamentary Front Focused on the Brazilian Naval Industry Was Based on a Document from Sinaval, Which Supports the Project
Recently elected to the Chamber, Deputy Alexandre Lindenmeyer (PT/RS) sent a proposal to the Presidency of the body for a project to create a Parliamentary Front to support and defend the Brazilian naval industry sector.
The deputy’s goal is to boost the segment over the next few years, relying on the purchasing power of the Union to increase the flow of orders in the national market, especially with Petrobras.

The proposal presented to the House is based on a document from Sinaval, proposed in 2022, to attract investments to the sector.
Alexandre is a former mayor of Rio Grande (RS), and has significant relevance in the Brazilian naval industry due to the presence of the ERG shipyard, from Ecovix, in the region.
Under the coordination of former Minister Miriam Belchior, the deputy had already created a group in December 2022 to work in the infrastructure sector. Now, he is turning to incentives for the naval industry with the Parliamentary Front project.
In addition to Sinaval, Lindenmeyer’s project in the Chamber has the support of the National Confederation of Metalworkers/CUT and the Unique Federation of Oil Workers (FUP), among others.
This is a proposal that can strongly contribute to the strengthening of the sector over the next years of the Lula Government, which has already reinforced its interest in investments in the naval industry.
Brazilian Market Lost More Than 60 Thousand Jobs Due to Crisis in the Naval Sector, Points Out Sinaval. Parliamentary Front Project Can Contribute to the Sector’s Recovery
According to data from Sinaval, in December 2014, Brazil had reached the peak of employability in the naval industry sector, with a total of 82,472 jobs.
However, the national market lost more than 60 thousand jobs since then, with only 21,447 jobs in May 2022.
“Therefore, there is an urgent need to increase public and private investments in this important and strategic economic sector, which has the potential to generate hundreds of thousands of new indirect jobs, especially in other industrial activities,” the agency highlighted.
Sinaval believes that investments in the naval industry should be at the center of a (re)industrialization project for the country, to contribute to the future of the national market.
In addition to the proposal for the Parliamentary Front, Deputy Lindenmeyer suggested the resumption of ongoing works and the initiation of new ones in the sector throughout the country. Only this way can investments in the naval industry yield strong results in Brazil.
