Agreement Signed During Official Mission to China Foresees More Than R$ 3 Billion in Investments in Renewable Energy for Expansion of Solar, Wind Power Plants and Storage Systems in Piauí, Besides the Creation of 5 Thousand Jobs.
The state of Piauí has just taken a significant step towards consolidating its role in the renewable energy landscape. During an international mission in China, Governor Rafael Fonteles signed a memorandum of understanding with the China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN), foreseeing investments exceeding R$ 3 billion in new sustainable projects in the state and the generation of 5 thousand jobs.
The agreement was announced on Monday (12), in Beijing, in the presence of President Lula, and marks the expansion of CGN’s operations in Brazil, especially in the Northeast.
The focus of the investment is on the construction of new solar, wind power plants, and storage systems, with installed capacity exceeding 1.4 gigawatts.

Expansion of CGN Reinforces Presence in the State Since 2019
Present in Piauí since 2019, CGN already operates solar generation parks in Ribeira do Piauí and wind farms in Lagoa do Barro.
Now, with the new memorandum, the company announces a phase of strategic expansion, focused on diversifying technologies and strengthening the regional energy infrastructure.
According to Governor Rafael Fonteles, the expectation is that more than 5 thousand jobs will be generated during the construction phase of the new projects.
“I am very happy here in Beijing, after signing this memorandum with CGN. They believe in Piauí and will expand their activities with important and innovative projects in the state,” he highlighted.
New Energy Technologies Will Be Tested in the State
One of the differentiators of the new investment package is the development of a pilot project for thermosolar generation, a technology that can convert solar radiation into electricity through heat, offering greater efficiency in energy utilization.
In addition, CGN will implement a modern energy storage system, essential for ensuring stability and security in supply, even during periods of low solar or wind production.
This bet on innovation places Piauí at the forefront of sustainable solutions, attracting the attention of international investors and increasing its relevance in the sector.
Partnership Integrates Billion-Dollar Package of Agreements with China
The memorandum between the government of Piauí and CGN is part of a broader set of agreements signed with Chinese companies, which together total about R$ 27 billion in new investments in Brazil.
The agenda includes contributions in areas such as electric mobility, green technology, logistics, and clean energy.
Among the highlights are R$ 6 billion from Great Wall Motor for industrial expansion and exports, R$ 5.6 billion from Maint1 focused on digital logistics, and R$ 5 billion from Envision for the installation of the first Net Zero industrial park in Latin America.
Piauí Advances as a Reference in Renewable Energy
With this new chapter, Piauí consolidates its prominent position on the map of renewable energies, attracting not only financial resources but also cutting-edge technological solutions.
The confidence demonstrated by giants like CGN reinforces the competitive potential of the state in the global energy transition.
“The state is increasingly taking a leading role globally in the energy transition,” concluded Rafael Fonteles after the signing of the memorandum in Beijing.
