The Installation of the Enterprise
The company is headquartered in Curitiba and was founded 50 years ago. In total, there are six headquarters and two branches, distributed across strategic points in Brazil. The OVD Group includes the brands Vonder, Nove 54, and DWT, all linked to machinery and tools for civil construction.
“It is one of the largest and best distributors in this segment of machines, hardware, and equipment for civil construction and has a portfolio of 25 thousand items. The group is also among the 20 largest wholesalers of construction materials. About 15 months ago, we started making contact and facilitating the group’s intermediation for them to set up in Minas. The expansion of Magazine Luiza’s distribution center in Extrema, in Southern Minas Gerais, is scheduled to begin in September. The location will be an extension of the already existing unit. According to the human resources manager at Magalu, Wiliam Miguel, the operation will support Netshoes’ activities. Approximately 500 new jobs will be generated at the site, and some positions are already available.
Wiliam Miguel states that “currently we have an operation that supports deliveries for Netshoes and another that supports deliveries for Época Cosméticos. Thus, our expansion of the distribution center in Minas Gerais for Netshoes will be split between two locations, having a main distribution center and this new ‘annex’,” he explains.
Magazine Luiza did not disclose the investment amount due to the prohibition period for investment disclosure by the stock exchange and because it is a publicly traded company. The expansion of the distribution center in Minas Gerais will be 14 kilometers from the current site in Extrema. According to Wiliam Miguel, the new enterprise will generate 500 direct jobs and about 1,000 indirect jobs. “The expectation is that by the end of this year, another 300 direct jobs will be created due to year-end demand. These 1,000 indirect jobs in Minas Gerais are for people who are being impacted just by the ongoing expansion,” Miguel reinforces.
