Government Signs Agreement for Billion-Dollar Investments for Solar Power Mega Project in Piauí. In Addition to Generating Renewable Energy, the Project Promises to Create Thousands of New Jobs, check out the details!

The Government of Piauí took a strategic step towards strengthening the clean energy matrix in the state. Through Investe Piauí, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on March 21, with the companies Coensa Construções Planejadas Ltda and Prosolar Geradora de Energia Solar (SPE) Ltda, for the implementation of a solar power mega project in the state.

The initiative aims to transform Piauí into a national reference in renewable energy generation, taking advantage of the high solar radiation index in the region. The project will be installed in a strategic area of the Piauí semi-arid region and is expected to attract billion in private investments, in addition to generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs during the construction, operation, and maintenance phases of the solar parks.

In recent years, Piauí has stood out nationally as one of the states with the greatest potential for solar and wind energy production, establishing itself as a sustainable and attractive hub for green investments.

3,500 Direct Jobs Will Be Created with the Arrival of the New Project

The signing by the Government of Piauí focuses on the installation of a solar power mega project that promises to generate 750 MW of power. According to the state government, the solar energy project called Complexo Fotovoltaico Fazenda São Dimas will be installed between the cities of Manoel Emídio, Sebastião Leal, and Bertolínia.

The investment in renewable energy is expected to create 3,500 jobs, boosting the local economy and reinforcing the state’s role as one of the main solar energy hubs in Brazil.

The agreement, finalized by the Vice President of Renewable Energies, Ricardo Castelo (Investe Piauí), Managing Partner Carlos Alberto Peres (Coensa), and Representative Sarah Catani (Prosolar), formalizes the cooperation between the State Government and the companies for the investment in the solar power mega project.

With the signing of the memorandum, it will be up to Investe Piauí to facilitate bureaucratic processes, promote dialogue with the cities involved, and seek strategic partners for purchasing renewable energy in the free market.

In addition, the state agency will work on consolidating the necessary infrastructure for installing the solar power mega project in Piauí, including roads and transmission lines, as well as bringing the project closer to Piauí business owners to boost the development of related sectors, such as hospitality, tourism, and restaurants.

Importance of the Solar Power Mega Project in Piauí for the State Economy

The companies involved in the renewable energy project commit to providing detailed data on job creation and the economic impact of the endeavor, making it more attractive for attracting investments.

The signing of the memorandum for the solar power mega project in Piauí represents an important step towards the sustainable advancement of the state, reinforcing its vocation for renewable energy and attracting large-scale investments.

According to Ricardo Castelo, Vice President of Renewable Energies at Investe Piauí, with the Complexo Fotovoltaico Fazenda São Dimas, the state strengthens its position as one of the leading solar energy hubs in Brazil, boosting the local economy and generating jobs in various sectors.

Castelo concludes by stating that Piauí has extraordinary potential for generating clean energy, and Investe Piauí remains committed to attracting projects that drive the growth of the state, always aligned with sustainability and innovation.

Solar Energy in Piauí

According to the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), in its report on solar photovoltaic energy generation, in 2020 the state of Piauí experienced a growth of 4,809 new generating units that exceeded residential ones. In 2021, the growth was 9,430, in 2022 it was 13,356, and in 2023, the state continued to grow with 16,032 new homes and businesses generating solar energy for their own consumption.

In 2023, the state reinforced its prominent position in Brazil’s energy landscape, ranking third in the country for both photovoltaic energy production and wind energy production, according to Aneel’s report.

Thus, the state consolidates itself as a reference in the country for renewable energy generation. At that time, production was 1.46 GW in operation, in addition to 867.22 MW under construction and projected to generate more than 13.14 GW to be constructed.
