The city is part of the Immediate Geographic Region of Dores do Indaiá and the Intermediate Geographic Region of Divinópolis, according to IBGE classification.
The relief is marked by valleys and hills, and the city is bathed by important watercourses, such as the Indaiá River and the Veados Stream, both tributaries of the São Francisco River. The Veados Stream, in fact, originates in Serra da Saudade itself — and it was this hill that gave the municipality its name.

One of the aspects that stands out most in Serra da Saudade is its public safety. According to data released by the Municipal Government, the city has not recorded a homicide in over 50 years, making it one of the places with the lowest crime rates in the country.
In an interview with TV Globo, the mayor Edmar Ferreira emphasized:

In May, the popular Festa do Peão takes place, which boosts the local economy and attracts visitors from neighboring cities. In September, the religious celebration of Our Lady of the Rosary gathers congadeiros and devotees, with processions and cultural presentations that move both residents and tourists.
During the city’s anniversary, a tradition repeats every year: a huge cake is distributed for free in the square, ensuring that no one is left out of the celebration.
