In this way, the Port Authority of Ceará and Progeco have established an agreement for a temporary six-month lease of a container terminal in the port complex.

Progeco is a subsidiary of the French company CMA Terminals, a multinational in the maritime transport sector, and according to the initial contract, will operate and maintain its own container and general cargo terminal across three operational areas.
This will ensure not only new directions for the company in the port market but will also contribute to the growth of container handling operations at Fortaleza Port.
The leased container terminal has a total area of 88,499.75 square meters, a considerable size for Progeco’s future operations in the Cearense complex.
The leasing of the area is part of the Development and Zoning Plan for Fortaleza Port, which foresees a series of contracts aimed at stimulating and boosting the complex’s role in the regional port market.
The main objective of the plan is to ensure new operations and increase container handling at the terminal, but this is not the only expected outcome of the action.
The Port Authority of Ceará hopes to ensure professional qualification and expand the specialization of operations at Fortaleza Port, offering more quality, modernization, and experience in activities.
Agreement Between the Port Authority of Ceará and Progeco Will Bring Even More Visibility to the Potential for Container Handling at Fortaleza Port
Fortaleza Port has an ancient vocation and increasingly greater potential in container operations.
Among the standout operations in the complex, the export of fruits in refrigerated containers (reefer type), especially melons, exported by long-haul shipping, can be highlighted.
Thus, the development of new contracts to increase the complex’s role in the segment will guarantee more visibility for the real potential of the Cearense port.
The CEO of the Port Authority of Ceará, Mayhara Chaves, highlighted the importance of leases like the one with Progeco and the previous results from the contracts.
“In 2018, when I took over the management of the Port Authority of Ceará, the leased areas were only 8.8% of the polygonal of Fortaleza Port. By the end of 2022, we managed to more than triple the use of leased areas, reaching 29.4%. The lease, among other advantages, should provide greater revenue and, as a consequence, solidify the excellent financial situation of the CDC, which has now been recovered,” she said.
The Port Authority of Ceará acts as the Port Authority at Fortaleza Port and aims to manage and commercially explore the respective facilities, promoting the growth of the port market in the area.
