According to Petrobras, “the increase in construction activities at Comperj, where the construction of the Rota 3 gas pipeline and the Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN) and its utility systems (steam, cooling water, etc.) are underway, occurred after the municipal government’s decision to authorize an increase in the workforce at the GasLub construction sites to 65% of the total that was active before the pandemic, as previously requested by the contracted companies.”
The state-owned company says that given the situation, the construction schedule will be reevaluated, as about 2100 workers remain temporarily dismissed from local activities, which represents 35% of the workforce that was mobilized previously.
Petrobras – Integrated Project Rota 3 – Comperj – Itaboraí – RJ
The Integrated Project Rota 3 will provide the third route for the flow of natural gas from the pre-salt. The project consists of the Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN), which will have the capacity to process up to 21 million m³ per day. In addition to the UPGN, the project includes the construction of a gas pipeline with approximately 355 km of total length, with 307 km of offshore section – already constructed – and 48 km of onshore section, which is under construction, and will transport natural gas from the Pre-Salt Pole of the Santos Basin to the UPGN.
Rapid Tests for Covid-19
In a statement, Petrobras emphasizes that it has been continuously monitoring the global health situation resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic and taking measures to protect its employees and establish barriers against contagion at its facilities. Rapid tests are one of these barriers and are aimed at employees as well as professionals from contracted companies who work on construction and other services for the company.
For those unfamiliar with the procedure, rapid tests are a type of examination that detects the presence of antibodies in the blood and, therefore, are useful for identifying people who may have had an active infection for a few days but without symptoms, as well as those who may have had an asymptomatic infection in the past.
So far, Petrobras has conducted over 35,000 tests for Covid-19 diagnosis throughout Brazil, including rapid tests and RT-PCR tests for symptomatic individuals.
The state-owned company was one of the first Brazilian companies to carry out this procedure on a large scale and is advancing its strategy of extensive testing along with other preventive measures such as rigorous sanitation of facilities, use of masks, and reduction of in-person activities by about 90% in administrative areas and 50% in operational areas that perform essential activities.
