Caxias RJ Contest Offers One Thousand Opportunities for Teachers and Education Specialists with Salaries of Up to R$3,189.78, Reduced Weekly Workloads, and Guaranteed Job Stability. See How to Participate!
In the municipality of Duque de Caxias, in the Baixada Fluminense, a new Caxias RJ contest has been confirmed, bringing excellent news for education professionals: 1,000 permanent positions will be offered, distributed among the positions of Teacher I, Teacher II, Educational Counselor, and Pedagogical Counselor. Salaries range from R$2,588.31 to R$3,189.78, with workloads between 16h and 22h30 weekly, allowing for a balance between professional life and other activities. In addition, approved candidates will have access to benefits guaranteed by law, such as premium leave, salary progression, job stability, and a teaching career plan.
The distribution of positions has been designed to meet the growing demands of the municipal education network. The majority of opportunities — 602 positions — will be for Teacher II, focusing on work in the integrated areas of Early Childhood Education and the initial years of Elementary Education. Positions for Teacher I are organized by subject, with highlights for English (60 positions) and Portuguese (49 positions). There are also 50 positions for Educational Counselor and 70 for Pedagogical Counselor, strategic roles in monitoring and providing pedagogical support to students and teachers in the public network.
Who Can Participate in the Caxias RJ Contest
To compete for the Teacher II position, candidates must have, at minimum, complete high school with a degree in teaching in the Normal modality. Diplomas in Higher Normal or a degree in Pedagogy are also accepted, provided they have specific qualifications to work in Early Childhood Education and the initial years of Elementary Education. This is an excellent entry point for those who completed traditional teacher training courses and wish to secure a public position with good remuneration and balanced work hours.

Those interested in positions for Teacher I must possess a full degree in the relevant field corresponding to the subject they wish to teach — such as Mathematics, History, Geography, Science, Arts, Physical Education, English, or Portuguese. Finally, to apply for the positions of Educational Counselor and Pedagogical Counselor, a complete degree in Pedagogy with specific qualification is required, or a degree in any field accompanied by postgraduate studies in educational or pedagogical orientation. These requirements aim to ensure the quality of professional performance and commitment to the curriculum guidelines of the municipal network.
Main Responsibilities
Professionals approved in the Caxias RJ contest will work directly in the public municipal school units, performing essential functions for the proper functioning of the educational system. Teachers II will be responsible for conducting pedagogical activities with children in Early Childhood Education and students in the initial years of Elementary Education, organizing content, planning classes, applying assessments, and promoting a welcoming and inclusive school environment. Teachers I will work in specific classes of their respective subjects, contributing to the critical, civic, and intellectual development of students. Educational Counselors will monitor the development of students, promoting individual and collective guidance actions, while Pedagogical Counselors will work on the planning and supervision of pedagogical practices, supporting the teaching staff and promoting the quality of education.
About the Contest
The contest marks an important step towards the recognition of teaching in the municipality. The Duque de Caxias City Hall had previously launched, in March 2024, an announcement for temporary positions for these same roles but decided to revoke the selection process to conduct a public contest with permanent positions, offering more legal security and stability for those approved. The measure was well received by professionals in the field and by unions, who have been advocating for years for recruitment through a contest.
The last similar exam took place in 2015, with 801 positions distributed among medium and higher-level positions. At that time, the contest was organized by Consulplan, and involved objective tests, title evaluations, medical exams, and proof of requirements. The exams were administered in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro, Nova Iguaçu, and Niterói, meeting a significant demand from candidates in the Metropolitan Region. The expectation is that the new contest will follow a similar structure, with intense competition and a high number of applicants, especially given the substantial offer of one thousand positions and attractive salaries.
How to Apply/Enroll
Enrollment for the Caxias RJ contest has not yet opened, but the official publication of the announcement is expected in the coming months. Interested individuals should monitor the Duque de Caxias City Hall website and the main public contest portals daily to not miss the enrollment date and the stages of the selection process. It is important, from now on, to gather the necessary documents and keep the resume updated, especially if the selection includes a title analysis stage.
Additionally, candidates are advised to start studying immediately, focusing on the basic and specific subjects related to the area they wish to apply for. If the contest follows the model of the last announcement, the organizing body may administer objective tests with questions on Portuguese Language, Educational Legislation, Pedagogical Knowledge, and Specific Knowledge, in addition to the title stage. Therefore, good study planning can make all the difference in securing approval and one of the thousand available positions.
