Carioca Shipping Company Operates Its First Vessel Built With Own Resources and Sets Ambitious Goals in Cargo Transportation
Another point of pride for the national shipbuilding industry, Posidonia Shipping is receiving and operating its first vessel built with its own resources. The Posidonia Bravo represented an investment of US$ 17 million from the company and was built in Rio Grande do Sul.
The vessel has the capacity to transport 2,700 tons, and the company’s expectation is to take advantage of the growing demand for specialized cargo for upcoming infrastructure projects in the country.
The “Posidonia Bravo,” a multi-purpose vessel, is equipped with a sustainable disposal system and dredging pumps capable of 55,000 cubic meters daily and is chartered under a five-year contract, but the client’s name has not been revealed by the company.
With the vessel’s operation, Posidonia aims to finish 2019 with a record of transporting 1 million tons.

Other Company Projects
In addition to the “Posidonia Bravo,” Posidonia Shipping is also investing in upgrade works for the “Santa Maria” barge, a general cargo vessel, in order to adapt it for the transportation of umbilical reels in coastal shipping. The order is a sign of confidence in the national shipbuilding industry.
From January to June this year, the company transported a cargo volume of around 500,000 tons and aims to reach one million tons by the end of the year.
About the Company
Posidonia operates in five strategic segments: ship management; feeder container transportation; transportation of solid and liquid bulk; general cargo and vehicle transportation; and maritime support operations.
The company is engaged in legal battles concerning the current rules of vessel chartering and what it calls market concentration in coastal shipping.
The company was founded in July 2010 in the city of Rio de Janeiro, but began operations in April 2013. It currently employs about 100 people, including onboard and onshore personnel. Among its key clients are prominent names such as Raízen, Trafigura, DHL, Deugro, Bertling, and MSC.
