In an urgent measure to contain the alarming number of fatal accidents, the DER determined the installation of 27 new radars at critical points on the highways. With tight deadlines and million-dollar investments, the initiative seeks to transform local road safety and save lives in historically dangerous segments.
In a continuous effort to enhance road safety and reduce the number of fatal accidents, the Department of Highways (DER) determined the installation of new radars on non-conceded state highways in the Textile Polo Region (RPT).
The responsible companies have a deadline of up to 90 days to complete the implementation of the equipment, according to the service order signed last Friday (14).
Details of the Installation of the Radars
In total, 27 strategic points in the region will receive the new electronic monitoring devices.

OMODA & JAECOO grows in Europe in 2026 with an integrated strategy of sales, innovation, local production, and technological advancement in the United Kingdom, Italy, and Spain.
The Luiz de Queiroz Highway (SP-304), which connects Americana and Santa Bárbara d’Oeste, will be the most covered, with nine radars distributed between kilometers 121 and 143.
This measure aims to curb speeding and consequently reduce the incidence of accidents.
The Comendador Américo Emílio Romi Highway (SP-306), recently the scene of two fatal accidents in a single week, will also benefit. Radars will be installed at kilometers 16 and 19, in both directions.
Furthermore, the road is undergoing patching operations to improve traffic conditions.
Investments and Responsible Companies
The installation of the equipment is divided into two lots. Lot 13, which includes 22 of the 27 radar points in the region, will be the responsibility of the Paulista Monitoring Consortium, with an investment of R$ 7.9 million.
This lot includes, in addition to the mentioned highways, the following roads:
- Luis Ometto Highway (SP-306)
- Margarida da Graça Martins Highway (SP-135)
- Arnaldo Júlio Mauerberg Highway (SPA-119/330)
- Astronomer Jean Nicolini Highway (SPA-127/304)
Lot 1, which covers the remaining five points, will be executed by Splice Indústria, Comércio e Serviços, with a value of R$ 5.9 million.
The highways included in this lot are:
- Adauto Campo Dall’Orto Highway (SPA-110/330)
- Virgínia Viel Campo Dall’Orto Highway (SPA-115/330)
Importance of Electronic Monitoring
According to the general coordinator of road operations at the DER, Ricardo Miguel do Nascimento, the installation of radars is essential for reducing accidents and ensuring user safety.
“The presence of the equipment helps respect speed limits, improving drivers’ reaction times and mitigating the severity of potential impacts,” highlights Nascimento.
Analysis of Accidents on the Highways of the Region
Recent studies highlight the need for effective measures on RPT highways.
Between January 2015 and March 2022, the Luiz de Queiroz Highway (SP-304) recorded 68 deaths, accounting for one in five traffic fatalities in Americana and Santa Bárbara d’Oeste.
Kilometer 127, near the neighborhoods of Nova Americana and Jardim dos Lírios, was identified as one of the most critical segments.
Moreover, the absence of fixed radars on SP-304, particularly in the Piracicaba segment, resulted in a significant increase in the number of deaths.
In 2021, 13 fatalities were recorded, more than triple the four cases that occurred in 2020. This spike coincides with the removal of monitoring equipment at the end of 2020.
Deadlines and Future Updates
The DER informs that the definition of radar installation points may be adjusted based on ongoing studies that seek to identify the most suitable solutions for each locality.
After the installation is completed, the locations and coordinates of the new equipment will be made available on the official DER website, ensuring transparency and access to information for all road users.
According to experts, the implementation of these new radars on the highways of the Textile Polo Region reflects a clear commitment to road safety and the preservation of lives.
Electronic monitoring, combined with improvements in infrastructure and educational campaigns, constitutes a comprehensive strategy to promote safer and more conscious traffic for everyone.
