The Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy of Mato Grosso do Sul (Crea-MS) Issued a Note of Rejection to Distance Learning Courses (EaD).
This Monday, November 18, the Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy of Mato Grosso do Sul (Crea-MS) issued a note of rejection to distance learning courses (EaD) for undergraduate studies in the fields of Engineering, Agronomy, and Geosciences in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Guedes sends PEC to Congress to try to eliminate once and for all the requirement for workers to register with class professional councils.
The Council has positioned itself against the offering of courses in the EaD modality, expressing concern about the expansion of hybrid courses that do not comply with the limit of up to 20% (twenty percent) of the total course load.

How to Train Professionals in Engineering, Agronomy, and Geosciences at a Distance?
According to the National Curriculum Guidelines for Undergraduate Programs in Engineering, Agronomy, and Geosciences, professional training requires the development of technical skills from the beginning of the training process.
The future professional needs to experience transformation and progressive maturation to establish a strong technical-scientific relationship until they are ready for the professional world.
The importance of interpersonal and technical-scientific relationships involves the development of competencies and skills necessary for professional training, guiding practical activities in laboratories across various scenarios, as well as training for the use of all methods, techniques, resources, and interventions that encompass the diverse areas of action of professionals governed by the Confea/Crea System, which are essential for the promotion and technological development of our nation.
Engineering is the profession where mathematical and technical knowledge is acquired and applied in the creation, improvement, and implementation of utilities that perform a function or objective. These competencies require practical and theoretical in-person activities.
Other Professional Councils, such as Physiotherapy (Crefito), Architecture (CAU), Medicine (CRM), Law (OAB), among others, have also manifested their opposition to the authorization of courses in their formative areas taught entirely in the EaD modality.

The MEC may not share the same understanding; however, the Councils claim possible damages that such courses may pose to the quality of training for their professionals, as well as the risks that these professionals may pose to society, both immediate and long-term, reflecting inadequate training and lack of integration between education/service/community.
“Thus, Crea-MS publicly and explicitly opposes the offering of undergraduate courses in the EaD modality for Engineering, Agronomy, and Geosciences in Mato Grosso do Sul and throughout the national territory, as the distance modality is incompatible with these professions in order to ensure safe and quality service to the population according to the dignity of our professions.”, said the Council in a statement.
