With Production in Bahia, Up to 530 Hp and Cutting-Edge Technology, the New BYD Sea Lion 07 Arrives to Dominate the Premium Electric SUV Market in Brazil.
BYD is about to take its boldest step in the Brazilian market with the launch of the BYD Sea Lion 07, a medium-sized 100% electric SUV that combines bold design, sports performance, and, most importantly, domestic production. The model, which will begin manufacturing at the new plant in Camaçari (BA), arrives with a clear mission to challenge the reign of the Tesla Model Y in Europe and establish itself as the main option in the growing premium electric segment.
Built on a next-generation platform and equipped with the acclaimed Blade battery, the BYD Sea Lion 07 is not just another launch; it is a symbol of the aggressive expansion strategy of the Chinese brand and a milestone for the national automotive industry. With a package of technology, safety, and power, it has all the ingredients to become one of the most desired vehicles in the country.
Production in Bahia: A Boost for the National Industry

One of the biggest assets of the BYD Sea Lion 07 is the fact that it is produced in Brazil. BYD invested R$ 3 billion in modernizing the old Ford factory in Camaçari, Bahia, to transform it into a hub for electric vehicle production.

The production of the Sea Lion 07 is scheduled to begin in late 2025, a move that, according to BYD Brazil’s vice president, Alexandre Baldy, is part of a plan to create over 5,000 direct jobs in the region. Local manufacturing not only strengthens the national industry but also ensures the SUV a more competitive price, with reduced import taxes.
Sports Performance and the Safety of the Blade Battery

The BYD Sea Lion 07 is built on the new e-Platform 3.0 EVO, an architecture that optimizes performance and efficiency. It will be offered in two motor configurations:
- Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD): With a 313 hp motor, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.
- All-Wheel Drive (AWD): With two motors that combine an impressive 530 hp, taking the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds.
Power is supplied by the Blade LFP battery, a technology patented by BYD and known for its superior safety, resisting puncture tests without catching fire. The range, depending on the version, can reach over 600 km in the Chinese cycle (CLTC), and the ultra-fast charging allows going from 10% to 80% charge in less than 30 minutes.
Design and Cutting-Edge Technology
With design crafted by Wolfgang Egger (former head of design at Audi), the BYD Sea Lion 07 inherits the elegant lines of the BYD Seal sedan, with a coupe SUV silhouette that prioritizes aerodynamics. The interior is sophisticated, featuring premium materials and the iconic 15.6-inch rotating central screen, which controls all vehicle functions.
The technology package also includes a Dynaudio sound system, a panoramic roof, and a robust level 2+ driver assistance system, with adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking.
The Battle with the Giants: Price and Positioning
The BYD Sea Lion 07 arrives to compete in a heavyweight segment, targeting models such as the Tesla Model Y in Europe, the Volvo EX30, and the upcoming Zeekr 7X. Its great advantage will be the price. With local production, the expectation is that it will be launched in a price range of R$ 200,000 to R$ 250,000, an extremely competitive value for what it offers.
With this strategy, BYD does not just challenge imported vehicles, but also positions itself to lead the transition to electric mobility in Brazil, offering a high-tech product with the advantage of local production.
And you, what do you think of the new BYD Sea Lion 07? Do you believe that domestic production and cutting-edge technology are enough to dethrone the Tesla Model Y in Brazil? Leave your opinion in the comments!
