The Chinese Automaker Expands Its Presence in Brasília by Providing an Armored Electric SUV and Two Plug-in Hybrids to the Chamber. The Loan, Valid for One Year, Will Allow for Evaluation of Performance, Costs, and Feasibility of Electrification in the Official Fleet.

BYD expands its institutional presence in Brazil by providing three electrified cars to the Chamber of Deputies in Brasília. After already supplying vehicles to the Presidency of the Republic, the Superior Court of Justice, and the Federal Court of Accounts, the Chinese automaker now integrates, albeit temporarily, the routines of the federal legislative.

The package includes an armored Tan electric SUV and two King GL plug-in hybrid sedans. Together, the three models reach a market value close to R$ 1 million. However, the agreement was formalized as a loan—free lending provided for by law—and has a fixed term.

Experts point out that this type of loan allows public agencies to test new technologies before any purchase decision. At the same time, automotive sector analysts observe that the physical presence of electrified vehicles in strategic institutions strengthens the brand’s image during a period of rapid expansion in the country.

Industrial Expansion, A Hot Market, and BYD’s Timing

The loan occurs in the context of BYD’s expansion in Brazil, especially after the inauguration of its factory in Camaçari, Bahia. The installation of the industrial unit marked a strategic step for the company in the country, signaling not only commercial interest but also local productive commitment.

At the same time, the Brazilian market for electrified cars is experiencing rapid growth. Sales of hybrid and electric models have been recording successive highs, driven by urban consumers and public policies geared toward energy transition. In this scenario, BYD’s presence in federal institutions enhances its visibility and consolidates its positioning.

There are currently no official details disclosed about the technical criteria that guided the loan. The Chamber also did not publicly specify how or where exactly the vehicles will be used in the daily activities of the House. It is only known that the use will be institutional and for a determined period.

The agreement comes at a time when public and legislative debate about tax incentives for electrified vehicles remains active. Projects discuss rates, industrial benefits, and stimuli for local production. Meanwhile, the use of electric cars by official bodies is frequently presented as part of the incentive for electromobility in the country.

Since 2024, BYD models have already been loaned or used by agencies from the three branches of government—Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary. This growing presence helps explain the gradual incorporation of the brand into Brazilian official fleets, creating a real testing environment for the technology.

BYD Tan Armored: High-Standard Electric Performance

Among the three vehicles provided, the highlight is the armored Tan electric SUV. The model is a large sports utility vehicle, with the capacity for seven occupants and aimed at the premium segment.

Equipped with two electric motors and all-wheel drive, the Tan offers a combined power of over 500 horsepower. The high torque ensures rapid accelerations even for a robust vehicle. The Blade battery, developed by BYD itself, has a high energy capacity and autonomy compatible with urban and intercity travel in Brasília.

The armored version adds weight and structural reinforcement, but maintains the proposal of comfort and onboard technology. Adaptive suspension, a large multimedia system, and refined finishing position the Tan as a suitable vehicle for high-level institutional transport.

Industry experts emphasize that the lithium iron phosphate battery used by BYD prioritizes thermal safety and durability. In official use, this can represent lower operational risk and predictable maintenance.

King GL: Hybrid Efficiency for Urban Routine

The two King GL sedans operate with a plug-in hybrid system. This means they can run exclusively in electric mode for a certain distance, being complemented by an internal combustion engine when necessary.

The DM-i technology, adopted by BYD, prioritizes energy efficiency. On short urban routes, the car tends to operate mainly in electric mode. The smaller capacity Blade battery, compared to the Tan, is sufficient for daily administrative displacements.

The combined power exceeds 200 horsepower, ensuring adequate performance for institutional use. At the same time, the fuel consumption in hybrid mode tends to present competitive figures in the segment.

The provided models include active safety features, a broad multimedia center, and an updated technology package. For the Chamber, this allows not only for the assessment of fuel economy but also the integration of technology, charging logistics, and operational costs.

Practical Testing at the Center of Decisions

The loan includes Wallbox chargers and portable units, facilitating the minimum infrastructure for operation. This transforms Brasília into a laboratory for electric mobility in an institutional environment.

Even though the environmental impact of three vehicles is limited, the symbolism is significant. Analysts point out that successful experiences could influence future public fleet decisions.

At the center of this movement is BYD, which combines industrial expansion, institutional presence, and market growth. In Brasília, where decisions shape policies and entire sectors of the economy, even a technological test gains strategic dimension.
