Toyota Hilux SRX Plus Maintains Leadership Among Pickups in Brazil, Combines Robustness and Technology, and Remains a Reference Even After Ten Years of Generation
The Toyota Hilux is already in its eighth generation, launched ten years ago. Despite the time on the road, it remains strong with good sales in Brazil.
Between January and August, the pickup registered around 32,000 units sold. This number puts it well ahead of the Ford Ranger, which appears in second place with approximately 21,700 units during the period.
This impressive performance shows how the Hilux is still the reference in the 4×4 turbodiesel pickup segment, even competing with newer rivals that are packed with technology.

The robustness of the mechanics and the reputation of Toyota’s after-sales service help maintain consumer confidence.
Furthermore, the model is expected to gain even more ground because the brand’s factory in Porto Feliz (SP) was hit by a storm that destroyed the engine line.
The stoppage affects Corolla and Corolla Cross, but does not impact the Hilux, which is manufactured in Argentina.
The Top-of-the-Line SRX Plus Version
With the arrival of the 2025 line, the Hilux GR Sport has exited the scene. In its place, the SRX Plus version has taken the top position, with a suggested price of R$ 353,290.
The model relies on a more refined finish, reinforced suspension, and a more comprehensive equipment package to stand out.
Imposing Visual
Although the current generation is nearing its end, the design of the Hilux still conveys an imposing presence.
At the front, the large grille with a chrome frame catches attention, as do the chrome details on the mirrors, door handles, and rear bumper.
The wheel arches received flares, resulting from the increased axle track. The roll bar painted in the body color and the 18-inch diamond-cut wheels complete the robust appearance.
Internal Comfort
Inside, the space is adequate, especially in the front. In the back seat, the more upright backrest can be uncomfortable on long trips, as is the case in other pickups.
The finish features a lot of rigid plastic, but well assembled, with different colors and textures. This mitigates the simplicity and keeps the interior on par with the category average.
Some details, however, show the age of the project. The gear lever resembles older models from the brand, and the dashboard remains analog, with a small 4.2-inch digital display.
The famous green clock, considered outdated, remains in place and even pleases traditional fans.
Equipment and Technology
The equipment list is plentiful. There is a 9-inch multimedia center with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, JBL sound system, 360-degree monitoring through cameras, ventilated front seats, smart key, and dual-zone digital air conditioning.
The seats feature perforated leather, a rear armrest with cup holders, and electric adjustment for the driver.
However, some modern items are still missing. The model does not offer a sunroof, electronic parking brake, or wireless charger.
Enhanced Safety
In terms of safety, the Hilux SRX Plus stands out. It comes standard with seven airbags, including a knee airbag for the driver.
The package also offers adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, collision warning, and lane departure warning.
Additionally, there are front and rear parking sensors, tire pressure monitoring, hill start and descent assist, and full-LED headlights.
Still, active lane centering and higher definition cameras could be included, as the price is high.
Performance and Engine
When driving, the Hilux is pleasing. The elevated and reinforced suspension ensures good comfort, effectively filtering bumps and potholes.
With all-terrain tires and a ground clearance of 32.3 cm, it handles trails and off-road obstacles well. The 4×4 traction with low range enhances confidence on difficult terrains.
The 2.8 turbodiesel engine delivers 204 horsepower and 50.9 kgfm of torque. The six-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and aids in daily use, although more gears could make the setup more economical.
The power steering provides precision but increases fuel consumption. According to Inmetro, the model achieves 9.3 km/l in the city and 10 km/l on the highway.
Comparison of the Hilux with Rivals
In urban use, the Hilux maintains good balance but falls short in dynamic behavior compared to the Ford Ranger, which feels more like an SUV.
Still, Toyota guarantees robustness and reliability that continue to be major differentiators for consumers seeking durability.
Payload Capacity
Designed for work, the evaluated version carries up to 1,005 kg, within the category average. This shows that despite the added comfort and technology, the Hilux continues to fulfill its role as a utility vehicle.
Complete List of Hilux Items
Among the highlights are adjustable multifunction steering wheel, connected multimedia center, JBL sound system, camera monitoring, ventilated leather seats, seven airbags, digital air conditioning, adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, parking sensors, LED headlights and taillights, metallic roll bar, 18-inch wheels, and 4×4 traction with low range.
Therefore, it is a well-equipped pickup that combines tradition and robustness, even as it nears the end of the current generation.
The Secret of the Hilux
The Toyota Hilux SRX Plus shows why it remains the absolute leader in the segment in Brazil.
Even without as many modern features as some rivals, it delivers reliability, solid performance, and a setup that inspires consumer confidence.
And it is precisely this formula — mechanical robustness, easy maintenance, and resale value — that explains the pickup’s success over so many years.
