New Housing Program Offers Loans of Up to R$ 100 Thousand for Reforms, with Differentiated Interest Rates and Special Conditions for Brazilian Families
The federal government will launch a credit program for home renovations aiming to benefit millions of families.
How The Credit Will Work
Families will be able to take out loans of up to R$ 100 thousand, with a repayment term of up to 96 months. The exact amount released will depend on the income bracket and payment capacity of each borrower.
Technicians estimate that the average loan will be R$ 15 thousand. Thus, about two million families are expected to be reached by the measure.

Payment Rules and Conditions
There will be no grace period. This means that the borrower will have to pay the first installment in the month following the contract signing.
The program will be under the responsibility of the Caixa Econômica Federal. In the beginning, there will be no direct agreement with construction material stores.
Sources of Funding and Expected Amounts
To finance the credit, the government will use the social fund from the pre-salt oil. R$ 30 billion will be allocated to the program, a value ten times higher than initially planned.
The decision to increase the amount came from the Civil House, with a special focus on low-income families.
In addition to the credit for reforms, the government plans to change the rules for savings accounts. The idea is to release part of the compulsory reserves for the construction sector. This measure could inject an additional R$ 35 billion into the economy.
Income Brackets and Interest Rates
Bracket 1 – income up to R$ 3,200: interest of up to 1.17% per month.
Bracket 2 – income from R$ 3,200.01 to R$ 9,600: interest of up to 1.95% per month.
Bracket 3 – income above R$ 9,600: charged at market interest rates.
The program launch is expected to occur at the beginning of October, through ordinances. According to the government, in addition to assisting families, the initiative also helps to reduce the housing deficit and stimulates one of the most dynamic sectors of the economy.
