With EcoPiggy, Family Pig Farming Gains Expanded Digital Technical Assistance, Integration with WhatsApp, and Innovative Environmental Solutions Developed by Embrapa in Partnership with ManejeBem
The digital transformation has truly arrived in the field, and EcoPiggy emerges as one of the main innovations in Brazilian family pig farming, according to a report published.
Developed by Embrapa Swine and Poultry in partnership with the startup ManejeBem, the app promises to expand remote technical assistance, connect producers and technicians in real-time, and strengthen environmental sustainability in the management of pig waste.
The official launch will take place on October 29, during the 24th edition of AveSui 2025, in Cascavel (PR), one of the largest animal protein production hubs on the planet.

Among EcoPiggy’s differentiators is the ability to gather, in a single digital environment, data collection, automatic reports, and control panels with indicators of nutrients and operating costs.
This field-office integration facilitates the adoption of best management practices and optimizes the use of pig waste in agricultural fertilization.
The app also provides technical content on water management and production planning forms, allowing for more accurate monitoring of field activities.
According to Embrapa researcher Marcelo Miele, project leader, the use of the app can increase the efficiency of ManejeBem’s field teams by up to five times.
He explains that the system was built on scientific knowledge and validated by technicians and producers in the regions of Concórdia (SC) and Palmitinho (RS).
During visits, specialists evaluated functionalities, adjusted indicators, and ensured that the tools truly reflected the practical needs of family pig farming.
Another relevant point is the integration of EcoPiggy with the Environmental Management System of Pig Farming (SGAS) of Embrapa, which creates a robust ecosystem of environmental data.
This crossing of information facilitates the diagnosis of critical areas, improves fertilization planning, and provides alerts about the excess application of nutrients.
All of this directly contributes to the sustainability and environmental balance of small farms.
EcoPiggy and Rural Connectivity: Lightweight Technology Integrated with WhatsApp
EcoPiggy was designed to be lightweight, intuitive, and compatible with the daily life of rural producers.
One of its major differentiators is the direct integration with WhatsApp, allowing technicians and producers to exchange information, photos, and reports easily.
According to Juliane Blainski, CEO of ManejeBem, the app maintains some functionalities available even without continuous connectivity.
“The producer can record data and doubts offline, and when reconnecting to the internet, the material is automatically synchronized,” she explains.
This practicality is essential in regions with low internet coverage. The app also offers automatic dashboards that simplify the monitoring of costs and nutritional indicators, turning technical data into accessible information for those in the field.
Additionally, the educational content on the agronomic use of waste and environmental licensing helps the producer remain compliant with current regulations, avoiding fines and promoting productive efficiency.
EcoPiggy therefore emerges as a support and learning tool, bridging scientific knowledge with the realities of small farms.
Collaboratively, technicians and farmers share experiences and solve practical problems, strengthening the concept of Digital Ater in Brazil.
Embrapa-ManejeBem Partnership and Collaborative Innovation in Family Agriculture
The partnership between Embrapa Swine and Poultry and ManejeBem began in 2020, driven by the Inova Program and the ecosystem of the Santa Catarina Association of Technology (Acate).
During the Covid-19 pandemic, most of the development was done remotely, challenging the cultural differences between a public research institution and a technology startup.
“It was a process of mutual learning,” highlights Blainski, recalling that Embrapa’s scientific rigor was combined with the agility and innovative spirit of the ManejeBem team.
The result is a functional app, validated in the field, and aimed at the real demands of family pig farmers.
The proposal goes beyond technical assistance: EcoPiggy strengthens local development, promoting sustainability, environmental education, and rational use of natural resources.
It also serves as a basis for future versions, which will include modules on composting, biodigestion, and territorial intelligence reports.
At the center of this innovation is the small producer, who now has access to an easy-to-use tool with continuous technical support.
According to the CEO of ManejeBem, the goal is to ensure that knowledge reaches all links in the production chain, reducing technological and environmental inequalities.
