The Company Aims to Leverage the High Potential of the State of Ceará in Renewable Energy Generation in 2023. EDP Launched in São Gonçalo do Amarante Its New Green Hydrogen Production Plant Focused on the Future of the Energy Market.

Betting on the future of the energy market with more sustainability, EDP launched this Thursday, (01/19), its new green hydrogen plant. The plant is located in São Gonçalo do Amarante, Ceará, and will be responsible for the production of the product over the coming years. The company is targeting Ceará’s high potential for renewable energy production, betting on hydrogen as the future of the energy sector.

São Gonçalo do Amarante Hosts Launch of EDP’s New Green Hydrogen Production Plant, with Million-Dollar Investment

Having operated across the national electric sector for decades, EDP is now focusing on the future of the energy market, renewable energy.

The company held an event in São Gonçalo do Amarante, Ceará, to launch its new green hydrogen production plant.

The new asset of the company is part of the Pecém H2V Research & Development project, which included an investment of R$ 42 million.

Thus, it targets green hydrogen as part of the future of the national energy market. Ceará has a high potential for producing the resource, making it the perfect location for the company’s project.

The company had already generated the country’s first green hydrogen molecule at this facility in December, being a pioneer in the segment.

The green hydrogen production plant features a solar power plant with a capacity of 3 megawatts peak (MWp). Additionally, it is equipped with a state-of-the-art electrolyzer module for fuel production, capable of producing 250 Nm3/h of gas.

For the launch of the new asset, the renewable energy company gathered representatives from the energy sector and the state administration of Ceará.

The company believes that Ceará offers the main characteristics to be one of the best places for green hydrogen production.

This is due to the high potential for renewable energy production in the area, such as wind and solar. Furthermore, the state has a suitable infrastructure geared towards projects like the new plant, facilitating installation.

Company Invests in the Energy Transition of Its Operations with the Launch of the New Green Hydrogen Production Plant in Ceará

EDP has plans to strengthen the energy transition in Brazil over the coming years.

The launch of the green hydrogen production plant in Ceará marks a significant step toward this, in addition to consolidating the organization’s commitment to the state.

Besides the production of fuel, the project includes the development of a roadmap with scenario analyses for scalability, considering all links in the production chain.

Thus, it will be able to further expand its green hydrogen production project in the state of Ceará.

“Even more important than producing the first molecule are the knowledge and experience that this initiative brings to EDP and to the green hydrogen market in Brazil. Now, with the plant completed and fully operational, which is pioneering in the country, our focus is to improve the generation process, assess business models, expand production, and establish strategic partnerships with different industry segments that can utilize the gas,” highlighted João Marques da Cruz, CEO of EDP in Brazil.

EDP celebrated the launch of its new green hydrogen production plant and expects to continue investing in renewable energy in Brazil.
