The Technical Cooperation Agreement Between The Companies Provides For The Exchange Of Information And Collaboration In Studies For The Projects. Eletrobras And Shell Aim To Invest In Offshore Wind Energy In The Coming Years, Following The Pace Of The Energy Market.
The energy company Eletrobras announced on Thursday, December 15, the signing of a technical cooperation agreement with the oil company Shell, aiming at the future of the Brazilian energy market. Amid the growth of studies for offshore wind energy projects, the companies intend to collaborate with each other to enable these studies and possible ventures. Eletrobras seeks to make its operations increasingly sustainable, investing in renewable energies, while Shell targets offshore wind projects for the coming years.
Technical Cooperation Agreement Between Eletrobras And Shell Provides For Studies On Possible Offshore Wind Energy Projects And Ventures In Brazil
The international energy market is increasingly seeking to align with the environmental agenda, making the production of resources cleaner and more sustainable. Thus, investments in renewable energies in Brazil are on the rise.
Among them, studies for wind energy production projects in Brazil are the great bet for the coming years.

A study reveals the expansion of renewable energy procurement in Brazil and shows how companies are taking advantage of opportunities to reduce expenses, ensure energy efficiency, and strengthen strategic environmental commitments.
License requests at Ibama for the installation of wind farms along the Brazilian coast totaled 176.5 GW at the beginning of December, attracting various companies to the segment.
Shell and Eletrobras are among them. The companies announced the signing of a technical cooperation agreement for the exchange of information and collaboration in studies for possible offshore wind energy projects in Brazil.
Thus, the two companies will jointly identify areas for partnership in the development and implementation of projects, focusing on the future trend of the Brazilian energy market.
“Considering that the eventual development of a project requires prior studies on the viability of potential areas for its implementation, Eletrobras and Shell are interested in jointly conducting the necessary studies,” explained Eletrobras’ Generation Director, Pedro Jatobá.
Eletrobras Invests In The Energy Transition Of Its Operations And Aims To Use Offshore Wind Energy Projects To Boost Initiative
The energy transition has been increasingly debated by Eletrobras, which is now investing in renewable energies to boost the initiative.
In this way, the technical cooperation agreement with Shell could be an alternative to bring the transition even closer.
Eletrobras President Wilson Ferreira Jr recently stated that the company aims to achieve net-zero emissions in scopes 1 (operations), 2 (energy consumed), and 3 (supply chain).
To achieve this goal, the company will invest in the sale of thermal plants, in addition to renewable energy projects.
It plans to raise around R$ 4.4 billion by selling stakes in companies by 2023, making its operations increasingly sustainable.
Alongside this initiative, the studies for offshore wind energy projects with Shell demonstrate the environmental commitment the company intends to adopt in the coming years.
Shell Already Has Six Offshore Wind Energy Projects Under Analysis At Ibama And Invests In The Market
During March 2022, the oil company Shell submitted to the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) the environmental licensing for six offshore wind energy projects, which total more than 17 GW of capacity.
The company is already preparing for the start of environmental studies and awaits appropriate regulation in the segment for the development of ventures along the Brazilian coast.
“With over 20 years of experience in wind energy worldwide and more than 50 years of tradition in offshore projects, Shell aims to combine its expertise in these two areas to provide more energy and clean energy for the country,” said Gabriela Oliveira, Renewable Generation Manager at Shell in Brazil.
