Elon Musk Clarifies Rumors About Tesla’s Smartphone Launch and Points Out Possible Scenarios to Enter the Smartphone Market.
In recent weeks, the internet went crazy with rumors about a possible Tesla smartphone launch. Many videos and speculations arose, especially after Elon Musk participated in Joe Rogan’s podcast on YouTube. But will this smartphone really come to fruition? Well, Musk himself came to clarify the situation, and spoiler: it’s not time to say goodbye to your Android or iPhone yet.
Elon Musk Denies Rumors: No Tesla Smartphone (For Now)
During the interview, Elon Musk made it clear that Tesla is not developing any smartphone at the moment. Despite being an innovative company, with projects ranging from electric cars to humanoid robots, a Tesla smartphone is not part of the plans.
“It would be possible to create a phone since our operating system is based on Linux, with a lot of additional software. But that is not in our plans right now,” Musk said.

Despite this, he admitted that Tesla is in a unique position to develop something that could rival the market giants like Android and iPhone. The reason? The expertise in technology and innovation that the company already has in-house. But for that to happen, something very specific would need to motivate that decision.
When Could a Tesla Smartphone Come to Light?
According to Musk, Tesla would only consider launching a smartphone if things really got out of control in the app market. He cited an incident from 2022 when Apple threatened to remove Twitter (now called X) from the App Store. Although the threat never materialized, Musk sees these actions as a possible trigger for a new product.
“If companies like Apple or Google start censoring apps or acting as gatekeepers excessively, we would consider developing our own phone,” Musk explained.
In other words, if one day the major players start limiting access to certain platforms, a Tesla smartphone could become a reality to ensure users have more freedom.
Starlink and Partnership with T-Mobile
Even though a Tesla smartphone is still off the table, Elon Musk is not completely out of the communication market. During the interview, he talked about the partnership between SpaceX and T-Mobile to bring Starlink satellite technology directly to smartphones. This project promises to revolutionize connectivity, allowing mobile devices to access the internet directly from space.
But don’t worry, that won’t happen tomorrow. According to Musk, the launch of this service should only occur in 2025. Still, it’s more proof that Tesla and its sister companies, like SpaceX, are always looking to the future.
Why Does Elon Musk Prefer to Focus on Other Projects?
If you’re wondering why Tesla isn’t focusing on launching a smartphone, the answer is simple: there are other huge projects underway. Musk mentioned that his attention is on innovations like autonomous cars, humanoid robots, and clean energy solutions like the MegaPack and PowerWall batteries.
Additionally, Tesla continues to lead the electric car market and is heavily investing in the development of technologies that promise to change the world. Launching a Tesla smartphone could divert focus from these priority projects.
Tesla Smartphone Will Only Happen If Absolutely Necessary
Despite all the rumors and expectations, Elon Musk was very straightforward: a Tesla smartphone will only happen if absolutely necessary. But that doesn’t mean the company is out of the tech game. On the contrary, Tesla and SpaceX continue to explore new horizons, such as satellite internet and artificial intelligence.
For Tesla fans, the message is clear: it’s still early to expect a smartphone with the company’s logo. But, as we’re talking about Elon Musk here, never say never. After all, he has surprised us before with projects that seemed straight out of a science fiction movie.
