Novelis invested BRL 750 million to expand its aluminum recycling plant in Pindamonhangaba, with the promise of generating dozens of jobs for the region. Taking into account only the aluminum recycling sector, the factory will have a new capacity of 490 thousand tons

The world leader in aluminum laminates and recycling, Novelis, announced this Tuesday (23), the expansion of its aluminum sheet factory, located in Pindamonhangaba, which promises to generate several new jobs. After investments of R$ 750 million, the factory, which is the largest in South America, now has a total capacity of 490 tons of aluminum recycling and 680 tons of plate production per year. The inauguration of the factory in Pindamonhangaba was attended by customers, partners, authorities and suppliers, such as André França, secretary of Environmental Quality of the Ministry of the Environment, André do Prado, state deputy and Isael Domingues, mayor of Pindamonhangaba, in addition to other entities.

Novelis generates more than 2.500 jobs in Pindamonhangaba

The plant project, which began in November 2018, included improvements in aluminum recycling, slab preparation, remelting, hot and cold rolling, logistics and finishing.

The expansion of the factory added a constructed area of ​​21 thousand square meters, reaching a total of 220 thousand m² of constructed area and mainly benefits the sectors of beverage cans, among others.

Through the expansion, the aluminum recycling plant promises to generate around 90 jobs, among employees of Novelis and partner companies. The project also had the support of the São Paulo Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Competitiveness (InvestSP).

Novelis pronounces on the expansion in Pindamonhangaba

Last year, the company inaugurated a railway terminal capable of transporting 25% of the cargo outbound e inbound. The company also purchased an additional area of ​​30 m² with a view to other future opportunities. This is the second major investment in this decade alone, in the company's factory.

During the construction stage, the project works generated around 2.500 jobs, most of which were occupied by professionals from the region. According to Steve Fisher, CEO of Novelis, recycling and expanding the use of recyclable materials is critical to Novelis' sustainable journey. According to the executive, the company will continue to find and invest in projects like this expansion to generate several job openings.
