Different models of combustion cars can be adapted to become vehicles powered by green hydrogen, according to the CEO of OZ Energia
The Portuguese company OZ Energia is developing a system that will serve to adapt combustion car engines to run on hydrogen, as it is less polluting. Several combustion-powered vehicles are currently undergoing a 'transition' to so-called more environmentally friendly mobility. For OZ, it is a kind of “nonsense” not to use cars that already exist on the market and adapt them, transforming them into vehicles powered by hydrogen.

Adaptation in combustion cars will ensure that existing fleets do not go out of line or out of the market, becoming less polluting with the use of 'green energy'
According to the chief executive of OZ Energia, Micaela Silva, promoting the use of 'green energy' does not have to be synonymous with renewing the population's car fleet just so that all cars from now on have the green seal.
The CEO argues that it is necessary to use cars that are already on the market today, as the path to sustainable mobility is not made by discarding products that are still within their useful life.
For this reason, for about three years, the company has been working on the development of a system that allows the transformation of a gasoline car into a car that uses mostly hydrogen.
OZ Energia bets on the future success of its new system, which is already in the initial testing phase
According to Micaela Silva, the company wants to see hydrogen supply sources across the country. The CEO explains that after her team realized that, for there to be an effective transition from combustion cars to hydrogen-powered vehicles, it would be necessary to wait for the automotive fleet to renew itself. Or the option would be to create a system capable of transforming current vehicles into engines that consume hydrogen.
The project is in the testing phase of the electrolyser, which is equipment that uses water to produce hydrogen.
CEO of OZ Energia comments on the increase in the price of cooking gas during the pandemic
The CEO of OZ Energia, after being asked what she thought of the increase in cooking gas, a measure adopted during the initial period of the covid-19 pandemic, where everyone was forced to stay confined at home, replied that this is not the way to go sure to follow. Micaela believes that it makes no sense to compare price and quality of service in the Portuguese market with other markets.
The CEO concluded, saying that she understood that there had been no abuse in the price increase, as a way to take advantage of the situation, that is the pandemic, and that it was not a question of high margins, but of controlling costs in which the country it was not prepared, as the risks were not budgeted for, such as the costs of individual protection material, so that its employees could continue to deliver gas cylinders to homes in the country.
