Meeting in Macaé Discussed Growth Prospects for the Oil and Gas Industry with Increased Offshore Activity for the Next Seven Years
The municipal secretariat for Economic Development and Environment of Macaé was the venue for a meeting between the Executive Secretary of the Brazilian Association of Oil Service Companies (Abespetro), Gilson Coelho, and the Secretary of Economic Development and Environment, Gerson Martins, last Wednesday (06/05).
The prospects for the sector over the next seven years, which will include investments totaling R$ 285 billion in the State of Rio de Janeiro, were debated.
The exploration of new reserves, auctioned by the National Agency of Petroleum (ANP) in the last three years, along with the strategy for revitalizing mature fields, indicates a resurgence of operations in the oil and gas sector in Macaé.

The intention of operators to increase production capacity in the reserves located in the Campos Basin was one of the reasons for such optimism for the city of Macaé.

Meeting between government entities, associations, and other individuals connected to the oil and gas sector in the region
The Secretary of Abespetro stated that: “The industry is ready to reactivate oil and gas operations, through the investments planned by the operators. In addition to the ANP auctions, the strategy for revitalizing mature fields increases the supply of oil for production, which raises Brazil’s share in the global oil and gas market.”
Account for about 30% of the State of Rio de Janeiro’s GDP, the oil and gas industry expects to experience a new cycle of growth; it is worth noting that Brazil is currently the 9th country with the highest oil production capacity in the world.
The Role of Macaé
According to Abespetro, Macaé is already feeling the effects of improvement in the sector with infrastructure works such as the construction of the Santa Tereza Road, the expansion of the Airport, and the installation of the new port.
The Secretary of Economic Development and Environment of Macaé reinforced this statement saying that the municipality has been preparing to meet this new demand.
Gerson further stated that “The requests for licensing for companies in this sector are increasing. These are concrete data from the secretariat, which motivate us to assist Mayor Dr. Aluizio in making important decisions to prepare the city and stimulate the oil and gas production chain, with significant potential to generate jobs.”
